Great Day!

What a way to spend a Saturday. Beautiful sunshine, not too nippy for a March afternoon. Nice easy journey, accessible ground with a better car park than most. Very impressive ground, easily the best I've been to on our travels this season. Good clubhouse, reasonable pint of beer. Decent crowd, plenty of away support. An early goal for the home team is just a blot on an otherwise fine afternoon. Steve Daly comes close to finding the net on a number of occasions. After a shaky start Hodges plays his best game in Amber. Michael Gilkes' bravery brings the rebels level. Tony Boot sticks Slough in front and all is rosy. Sammy comes on, get a roaring reception, nearly scores an outstanding goal to seal the three points. Somewhere along the way their number 7 is sent off for reasons beyond my recognition. Its unfortunate in a match that is otherwise free from ill challenges. The final whistle blows, Slough walk away with maximum points and the travelling Barmy Army go home very happy.

Oh $hit, I forgot the last ten minutes. Blakey claims a cross but fumbles the ball, possibly under an illegal challenge but really should have held onto the ball, lo and behold an equaliser. Number 3 of Hemel decides he is very happy, so much so that he starts making w*nker gestures at the Slough supporters. The crowd are incensed. Deciding then to air his behind the Number 3 winds the crowd up even more. The referee cannot see this as the Number 3 is quite devious and faces forward. (presumably then the Hemel fans are also oblivious to his actions) Getting in on the stupidity act another Hemel player is sent off for deliberately blasting the ball at Slough supporters from close range, fortunately not injuring anybody. The already incensed crowd rise well above boiling point. Number 3 makes even more gestures and at the final whistle makes a point of sarcastically clapping the Rebels' fans. A scuffle breaks out as a couple of Hemel fans take exception to Slough fans being miffed by the actions of the Hemel Number 3, a couple of blokes try to fight Slough fans, one makes accusations that a certain Slough supporter is responsible for the outbreak for having called the number 3 'an f###ing disgrace' before drivelling on about the fact that Hemel have never had any trouble before, what sort of mickey mouse oputfit allows Slough supporters to behave in such a way. Club official with dodgy 70s permed mullet tries to calm the situation but doesn't do a great deal. Well done Roy Merryweather for coming over, trying to calm things down and talking to one of the Hemel 'supporters'. In the car park a non-scuffling Hemel fan advises Slough fans to 'f*** off back to your Sikh Temple.'

Those are the facts of today from what I've seen. I was walking round towards the clubhouse when the scuffle broke out so have no idea about what triggered it specifically, though the actions of the Hemel Number 3 went a long way to creating the problem. I find it quite astounding that people can point the finger at the Slough supporters for what was going on. We are a family club, and the number of people who bring their kids to matches home and away is growing. Okay, there is swearing and people can begrudge that, but every set of supporters up and down the country swear and curse, not to mention the benches of a number of football teams.

I really enjoyed my trip to Hemel until the last twenty minutes or so before leaving the ground. What a pity that things ended as they did, both on and off the pitch. There must be something in the Hertfordshire water as the home support moaned excesively about us at Arlesey as well. Come on boys, lets get promoted and leave this lot behind us.

"Come on boys, lets get promoted and leave this lot behind us"

Only if you can play football, what I saw was not football from either side. No hopers and no hope of promotion for you losers
