Billericay Town 0-1 Aldershot

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately we lost to a first half goal. Does anyone know who played, what was the performance like and attendance?

After 34 games last season we had 47 points compared to the 52 we have this season. So if we didn't have injuries and be forced into selling our best players we might have done quite a lot better than last season. But we are still doing better this season, despite our problems.

I was really disappointed to see us line up 4-5-1 at the start. To me, in a home game, that is an admission of inferiority before a ball is kicked, even more so when we really have nothing to lose at this stage of the season, and hardly the best way to try and keep some of the casual support that turned up for this game.

D'sane showed a nice bit of skill to mug ollie for their goal. after morris went off injured (gilley off later even more injuries) young alexander came on up front and we reverted to 4-4-2. this coincided with our best spell of the game and we had quite a few chances in the last 25 mins of the first half.

I thought Aldergrime reasserted in the second half and JJ made a couple of great saves. Some of our players wilted a bit as the game went on but again plenty of effort was shown, especially by the less regular 1st teamers, and there was plenty of encouragement from the bench which was good to see. Not sure of the crowd number but it looked quite big to me so hopefully a few bob in the bank.

I think weve been a bit unfortunate in our last couple of games and if we continue to play in the same vein I think we will beat Borehamwood on Tuesday.

As for the Shots, i thought they just about deserved their win but should they go up they will need plenty spent as barring Dsane and their keeper they didnt look to be anything special.

Cmon the blues

yeah i agree, 4-5-1 was the wrong line up. I think the blues were very unlucky in the first half by not scoring, especially Willo's chance! I think we will beat Borham Wood 2-0 on Tuesday and then beat Baisingstoke the following Saturday. James Alexander I thought played really well on Saturday, and so did Mark and Richard.

Hopefully on Tuesday the crowd turnout will be just as big for the blues as it was on Saturday, and Billericay will be able to put what happend on Saturday behind them when they beat Borham Wood.

4-5-1 was the wrong line up to start with and when after bringing on alexander and changing the formation ot 4-4-2 ricay got into the game and i ahve to say alexander particularly in the first half good

how did willo miss that chance is still beyond me all he had to do was hit the target from just over 6 yards and he managed to drag it 3 yards wide of the post and he did play a as a forward for a while so its not as thoguh he canr score goals

the attebnces was by some way the biggest of the season maybe as much 1,500 nice to the club get some cash in the bank

but ricay fans were out numbered by maybe even 3 to one which isnt good for at all

wiht canveys draw at maidenhad the championship is pretty much and on the basis of yesterdays game aldershot will struggle in the comference unless they do some major investing which of course they can afford to do

Can't agree with Anonymous, Mark G has an ordinary game which is a problem when he plays as a wing back and does not go forward enough. I thought the defence played well although Ollie and Gilley did not look fit. Russell had a good game and Savidge played well when he came on. Keerigan had his usual depenadable game in defence and going forward. JJ produced two outstanding saves and had no chance with the goal. In midfield, Richard G and Ansell played well but, again, nothing from Wills. Up front, it's a big problem, Douglas is not producing the goods and Alexander was off the pace, maybe it's a bit early to judge as he hasn't played many games. Now that Fewings has gone we need Wallo back in the team so Ansell can play in midfield. I think that Wills is a liability at the moment and we desparately need another midfield player now that Morris is injured.

To sum up the game, typical Calder tactics of going for the 0-0 draw, then when the opposition scores, we can't get out of the defensive way of playing.

Not a bad game, but dissapointing none the less. Vast majority of the crowd were Aldershot fans.

Once again agree formation is all wrong. You cannot play 4-5-1 with Douglas up front on his own. He does not read the game well, doesn't really put the effort in and doesn't even jump when going for headers.

I know Calder is due some respect for what he has done for the club of late, but he is still too defensively minded. We came out and when for the 0-0 on Sat and once again we didn't get it.

And finally the reason Williams missed the goal is that he has completely lost it. He is rapidly moving from waste of space to being a 12th player for the opposition. And as for his qualities as captain - oh please!!

Last half hour of the first half, thought we played quite well. If Willo had tucked his chance away you couldn't say that it was undeserved. Second half was a bit of a non-event but couldn't fault the effort put in, and it has to be remembered that some players are playing with knocks. Thought James Alexander looked good in the first half. Agree with JL that we should be more attacking, if only to get a few more people through the turnstiles. As for the attendance, 60/40 in our favour I'd say, not that it matters now!
