Toto causes Israeli downfall

Recommended Posts

I see that Israel finished one point behind Russia in the final group table and only just missed out on a glorious qualification for next summer's European Championship Finals. If only that chance in the first five minutes of the home game with England had fallen to a half decent striker, instead of Toto, that whole country would be in celebratory mood now. But it didn't and it isn't.

Did anybody happen to notice Israel's qualifying draw for the 2010 World Cup. We play Greece, Switzerland, Moldova, Latvia and Luxembourg which must surely make us favourites to qualify particularly with Toto a year older and back to full fitness.

surely if Israel fail to qualify, Toto will be castigated...this is the lightest group of the Euro zone.....heads will roll if we dont see the wonder kid Tamuz at the World Cup in 2010.

It is an easy group and Israel must rate their chances though I don't honestly think that the appearance of Toto Tammuz is the key to their qualifying.

That's right and he also speaks fluent Hebrew, I got an e-mail from my contact Tom Dart at The Times the other day who thinks he will definitely be playing in the Premiership next season.

Lato - Well Israel are currently in a perfect position to qualify from their group where two Countries go to South Africa. They are currently a point behind Greece and a point ahead of Switzerland with Latvia, Luxembourg and Moldova also rans but likely to takes points off Greece and Switzerland such as Luxembourg's extraordinary 2-1 win in Switzerland whereas Israel won easily in Luxembourg 3-1. Toto hasn't even broken sweat yet in the qualifying campaign.

doesn't actually answer my question but that's no surprise. You are right in that he hasn't broken sweat as he hasn't featured for the full National side since October 2007...is he injured or just out of favour? Still as your information points out they are doing well without him.

Oh no don't worry Toto fans..further research shows he is back playing for the Under-21s and doing quite well for them.

Lato - You are no doubt aware that Toto was all set to go to Bayern Munich at the start of this season following previous interest shown in him by a list of Club's as long as your arm including Chelsea, Tottenham, Everton, Bolton, Portsmouth and Rangers, unfortunately the deal fell through otherwise he could well have been the biggest overseas success story in Germany since Kevin Keegan at Hamburg:

German giant Bayern Munchen is interested in Israeli striker Toto Tamuz. Tamuz's manager Ronen Katzav announced to website 'ONE' that a fax arrived today, in which Bayern wants to start talks concerning the Beitar striker.

Tamuz can become the third Israeli player in the German Bundesliga after Monchengladbach's Roberto Colautti and Gal Alberman.

Ronen Katzav told 'Sport99': "Bayern Munchen is already thinking about Toto Tamuz for a long time. When Twente was interested, we already knew about Bayern. Munchen is looking for a young and talented striker. We can start talks. If they want medical tests, no problem. But we are not interested in try-outs."

"Toto Tamuz is a special player and he has the potential to arrive at the top in Europe." added Katzav "Beitar doesn't want to let him go, but they realise that it concerns a big European club. If Bayern wants to sign him, but to send him to a second division team we'll tell them that we are not interested."
