New Years Day fixtures

Recommended Posts

Yes I didn't want to comment myself incase Lendal was on some sort of wind up particularly as it was his or hers first post. As far as I'm aware there are only two SSML new years day fixtures both in division 2, Mursley United v Padbury United and The 61 FC v Crawley Green kicking off at noon.

As established on an earlier thread, the SSMFL don't like to have fixtures on "special" days as they might attract a large crowd!

Valid point BB. From the club's point of view though, it's the chance to make a killing gate/bar wise.

Yes that's true but I feel sorry for the players of Mursley United, Padbury United, The 61 FC and Crawley Green, perhaps they're all tea total and Eric Harrison established this with the four Club's before issuing the fixtures, nothing would surprise me where our ultra efficient SSML hierarchy are concerned.

What net is that then, if they intended to they would have done it long ago and used 'Sugar's ridiculous five page rant and fifty page 'bundle' of posts as an ideal opportunity rather than laughing in his face.

I agree, clubs at this level need all the money they can get.

another good win for your boys on sat. i see Dave Hunt is back thats a great signing, centre mid was the only position that you was lacking.

Horace - We've discussed this issue so many times before that I have lost count, the SSML fixture Secretaries rightly believe that Christmas and New Year are times when people should be with their families rather than getting up early on Boxing Day for example and travelling miles to play a game of football, why do you keep knocking them for that.

Because I don't agree with them! We have been used to playing in Leagues that took a different view!

BuryBaller - yes, what a signing! We have been wanting him back for ages. He was superb on Sat, until he tired. Scored too!

Will certainly be a big bonus, central midfield is definately an area they've need to improve for quite a while!

I have to agree Horace. The SSML fixtures as a whole (they've given us Bigg Utd at home in midweek for god's sake!) appear to be based on a hairbrained scheme that denies the best chance of revenue for clubs. The lack of 'special day' fixtures smacks of the worst case of Mickey Mousedom possible.

I have no problem saying this on a public forum as I have said it to the faces of 2 league officials just recently. Clubs at a higher level would cause mayhem if their leagues deprived them of the opportunity for making the best of the fixtures list. Not that those leagues would ever consider not making the best of special days and derby matches.

We'd better start a campaign, Wader. But then I suppose both of us hope that our clubs will be playing on New Year's Day 2009 anyway!

By the way, I was motoring up the A1 yesterday morning and happened to glance down at the new ground - have to say it looked very good indeed!

Horace - This is only because you are putting money before family values which is typical of the sad society we live in today, I have to say I'm surprised at you.

You Civil Servants have no idea about turning a penny because you've never had to. You have no idea what running a business is about. And to fund a football club you HAVE to look at it like a business. Unless you want to stay at pub level forever. This League doesn't purport to be at a pub level, so why treat the clubs as if they are?

The family thing is a smokescreen from you Cec. Football on Boxing Day wouldn't stop you taking your family to midnight mass on Christmas Eve or Service/Communion on Christmas morning.....and if you're not religious in that way then you shouldn't be that bothered about the whole Christmas thing in the first place.
