The Best Step 5 Leagues

I think there are 16 leagues at Step 5 and have played teams from about 6/7 of the leagues but what do people think are the strongest leagues at Step 5?

Obviously some have a step 6/divison 1 so thats obviously adds some extra competition with relegation and promotion. Some of the leagues have 15 teams others have 20 odd and the more teams the better the competition. Also you don't end up playing stupid cup competitons to make up the games and end of playing the same teams 5 or 6 times!

I suppose Coups would have a good idea but what order would you put the leagues in? I'm talking about quality of the teams but I think certain leagues have better grounds as well. Judging by the teams I've played against mine would be:

1. Ridgeons/Eastern Counties

2. Sparten/ South Midlands

3. Combined Counties

4. Hellenic

5. ESL

6. United Counties

7. Kent

8. Sussex County

If you are talking quality of football overall the Ridgeons will be top.

But, the SSML, Combined Counties and Hellenic would all be below the ESL. Some of the SSML, CCL and HL grounds are laughable - and some fairly poor teams there too. The Sussex County would be above the Kent League too.

1. Ridgeons

2. ESL

3. UCL

4. Sussex County

5. Kent

6. SSML

7. Combined Counties

8. Hellenic

But generally I found the Eastern Counties and the Sparten teams very good. I think with the low number of teams and no step 6 the ESL and Kent league should rank lower than the others.

After watching ESL sides over a period of 14-15 years i would say the ESL is the best league. No other league at step 5 has had so many clubs promoted and moving up the echelons than the ESL.The list is endless...Canvey Island,East Thurrock utd,Ford utd,Heybridge swifts,Maldon Town,Purfleet,Witham Town,Wivenhoe,GWR,Leyton,Enfield town,Hornchurch,Brentwood town.I can count on my hand the ones that came out of the ridgeons comfort zone... smile
