the end is nigh?

i know that we're about to go through the summer of 98 again, but after reading various posts, i thought i'd throw some ideas, theories, etc. into the melting pot.

1. i read on here that the council are 100& behind keeping STFC going

2. mayfair communications has posted a renewed application for the expansion of the ground.

3. martin deaner applied for permission to build a new football league standard ground, with training pitches, etc.

now adding all this up leads to 2 conclusion...

1. deaner has cash (somewhere)

2. mayfair has cash

which in turn leads to these assumptions

1. deaner CAN afford to but the ground and re-develop it.

2. mayfair wants to improve the ground whil keeping deaner in charge, hike the price up and sell it.

but surely, if the council backing is for real, can't the council buy the land from mayfair, have deaner re-develop it, sell it, split the cash three ways, third to mayfair, rest to deaner and the council who re-invest it in another site?

or is that just way too hopeful? either way, this club has too proud a heritage, and too good a set of fans to die, plus the potential for this club to really go places (ie mundane midtable in nationwide division 2)

plus, we could send begging letters to the owners of americas richest companies

unrealistic I'm afraid young man..the problem you have is not with the private entities you name but the council (any council) who simply do not have the infrastructures to act expediently over these matters...unfortunately football clubs come very low on their list of priorities...we are, you see...assessed as greedy tribalistic oportunists that will do anything to put goal posts up on land secretely designated for politically orientated ethnic community support...not much changed there then over the last 20 years...do you think that we would have succeeded at HFC if we hadn't had the athletics club in our wake...now that is a hot potato that the councils dont want to face up to....

don't worry...your famous old club will survive one way or the other I'm sure...keep the faith..

cheers for the support, and I agree with your sentiments regarding councils. When our Chairman rescused us from the brink in 98 a deal was made with the council that in the duration of the five year lease we acquired for our ground they would sort us out with permission to build a new ground o help us get the freehold for our current ground. Lo and behold five years down the line they've done little but block our ambitious attempts at building a sports complex, and have agreed in principle to give the land next door (which we've been negotiating for 5 years) to build a Sikh Primary School. Glorious eh?

i think everyone has lost track of my point, but my point still remains. if deaner could afford to build a new ground then he can surely afford to buy the lease for the ground or the just the site for £300,000 or even £3,000,000, because a new ground would cost a hell of a lot more than that.

so the question is, why doesn't he?

Deaners plans always involve lots of wheeling and dealing. Fact is he hasn't got the cash up front, so he can't build anything without involving lots of others, giving, them a slice of the action, thats the only way he could get any money up front. Doesn't mean that oneday, one of the plans won't come off--just makes it more complicated and more unlikely.
