Possible MyFC member - ready to be shouted down

Recommended Posts

As someone who registered with MyFC when the first 50,000 members were being requested, by hasn't actually gone through with it yet, I am curious to get a proper opinion from Ebbsfleet supporters.

I am a Chelsea supporter (from 1979, not one of the newbies), and was a shareholder until the Roman invasion. My only link to Ebbsfleet Utd was going past the Gravesend and Northfleet ground a few times when working as a lorry driver. I admit to knowing very little, if anything, about the club.

I could be wrong but my understanding is that the current manager, Liam Daish, will be posting into the members section of the website his recommendations as to the team, tactics etc. This then goes to a vote. Personally, I think he will know more than anyone (apart from the diehard Ebbsfleet supporters sometimes) about this.

There may be the possiblility of some members recommending players, but has been posted before, too many players will totally knacker up the continuity of the team and cause problems.

One positive point I think is the increased profile of the team. I personally would try to get along to a few games each season with my kids, but this could lead to some resentment among the true supporters. We have this at Chelsea already. I have been priced out of supporting Chelsea to be replaced by some of the 'prawn sandwich brigade'.

I will be honest, the reason I initially signed up was because it was different. Maybe a gimmick. I will not deny that (hence the ready to be shouted down title of this post).

If Ebbsfleet is definitely the team chosen then I will be following mainly from a distance, although attending from time to time, and will pretty much agree with the managers choices. I will also be checking out and posting on the forums regularly.

I am just posting honestly here and will probably not be the sort of person who the true supporters would want owning a tiny share in the club but just want peoples opinions.

Is it a good idea to subscribe?

If you have any interest in Ebbsfleet United, rather than give £35 to MyFc, of which £12 odd goes to the supposed running of the MyFc website, why not just send a cheque for the full amount of £35 directly to the club. You will be made most welcome at Stonebridge Road at any time.

As I said elsewhere if you really think that paying £35 to MyFc will give you any 'real' influence on the day to day running of the club, then think again. Who the hell is going to co-ordinate the views and opinions of 20,000 + MyFc members. The heirarchy will, dispite what the MyFc thought police say or imply, impose their way/views anyway.

I don't think I would have any influence in the club. The only problem I can see possibly is if people sign up to cause damage to the club may make sure they vote for decisions but the people who want the manager to get on with it may just not vote. Maybe an outside chance but a downside.

I can see your point about the money. If MyFC do take over, my money would just go to them anyway, but with the extra £7.50 (I think) going to club funds.

This is why I posted on here. I am happy to sign up, but would like to get opinions from people closer to the club. You are (as a supporter) one of the most important people at the club. That is why I wanted supporters opinions, not a face man for an organisation.

No. That post seems have have been confusing.

I meant that although the website tries to put a positive spin and there are no problems, I wanted supporters opinions.

I never even thought Slartibartfast is a face man for MyFC. I apologise if that is how it looked. I meant whoever does the MyFC website and the person setting it up.

I think that most MyFC members (me included) are willing to wait and see how much influence we will actually have. Only a small minority (from what I've seen) expect us to be making every single decision at the club.

I have reservations about how it will actually work. It will be novel to be able to vote on team selection, but in reality, what will I really know about the EUFC players - even watching on TV won't give me the full picture. I'll have to look at the views of the coaching staff (assuming that we'll be given this information) and vote based on their opinions (unless I can get to some games).

Other decision need to be split into strategic and operational. Like any organisation, as 'senior officers' the MyFC members need to decide strategy (where the club is going, what are the priorities etc) and the staff need to decide on operational issues (how to achieve what we propose).

As I said though, I'll wait and see.

I'm planning to be a voice of reason on the MyFC forum to guide some of the more exciteable members to look at the bigger picture.

If the MyFC takeover goes through, I'll be setting up an e-mail account so that the fans who are not members of MyFC can let me know their thoughts - listening to the fans is very important and something I'll be pushing on the MyFC forum.

Chris.

You won't be the only one pushing for that.

You don't have to join MyFC to benefit from its purchase of the club. You can just join the Trust, especially if their shares in the club are not bought up by MyFC (at least I hope that's the case).

The one obstacle is finding a way to get the fans' views on the club and its running without segregating the fans and the MyFC members in the process.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. If you want to support us, give money to the club directly, through merchandise or tickets.

I couldn't agree more with this on principle John, but if people wanted to pay £35 to the club as you suggest, no strings attached, they would have done it by now.

JoeBloggs, John's suggestion would be the most beneficial for the club, but if you don't want to then you could also do us a huge favour by registering, and putting Fleet merchandise on your Christmas list.

My view - it's your money , do with it what it is intended for - to make you happy . It takes a long time to earn , and no time at all to spend it .

As a diehard since the mid seventies , third generation fan ( that predates Gravesend AND Northfleet , BTW ! ) which included the late Ted Ditchburn in our family , I will NEVER desert MY LOCAL CLUB - WHATEVER ! I don't need ANYBODY to tell me what I should think - however , like most , my initial thoughts are subject to change when I hear something I agree with more . I have this year , and for close on 30 years , renewed my season ticket , bought my home and away shirts , car stickers ; bought a programme at every home match because of no greater reason other than it costs the club money to print them , then at a later date handed them back to the club shop to resell and earn more money ; parked in the club car park (before it became an omnibus graveyard!), etc ect .

Each and every year I put more money into my club than anyone that chooses to only pay their £35 to MYFC per annum , and maybe NEVER see the team - BUT THESE PEOPLE EXPECT A SAY IN MY CLUB . I expect a MYFC-apparatchik reply telling me to join up , pay £35 AND have my equal say - WHY ?

My enjoyment comes at a level I choose , my opinions are based on my own thoughts on players and staff and fans I SEE AND KNOW - not a set of computer based statistics ( lies and damned lies ) like was carried out at Cambridge Utd ( I think ) by Uni Dons several years ago .

I won't pay MYFC , like Slarti , IF the takeover goes ahead - I don't believe in giving a 3rd party my hard earned £7.50 for something that could harm my club in its wackiness .

Just my thoughts - like everyone has theirs .

Trust your own instinct , listen to your inner voice , and make up your own mind . If you don't like sprouts , don't eat them - if you don't like mushrooms , stay away from the compost !!!!

I agree with you mate that you should trust your own judgement on this, but I actualy said I would pay them £35:00 on the day that they purchase 51% of the club shares, I won't pay championship manager but I would like to keep an eye on what is going on.

If you or anyone else feels differently then I wouldn't argue with your decision.

And I have stated elsewhere.............If they are still around in three years, I will pay the equivalent of 35 quid to the Trust every year. That way all[/i] the money will go to the Club!

I am not convinced, that everyone of the new members are just that! I am convinced that some, not all, are playing Reality Football Manager 2007!

Unless you are a member, I don't understand your hostility towards me! I was told, if it smells like a rat, It's a rat!

MyFC members seem genuinely concerned that a minority of ill-informed posts reflect poorly on all of them, and rightly so, I should think that anyone who was truly not happy about this takeover would be equally concerned about some of the more hysterical, anyone who disagrees with me is a spin doctor/its all a conspiracy type of posts.

Last week I was apprehensive but grateful for the money on further consideration it is the money that I am most apprehensive about,I love the idea of people all round the world supporting little old us so I welcome all the instant fans but I am worried that their money will change my club.

I have not paid yet and am in a dilemma about whether to or not.

Whilst enraged that this is looking as though it is actually going to happen, I would be lying if I said I wouldn't want to know exactly what goes on inside the friendly confines of their site.

What I do know is that my support for the Fleet has been much galvanised by all of this, not that it was exactly wavering before but you get what I mean.
