The MyFc Diary

All,

This was posted on the Members section of the MyFC site today. I'm afraid I don't know the level of involvement of the individual who wrote this but I assume from what he's written that he's one of 'the team.'

Interesting reading.

Hope you're all good today!

'The MyFC Diary 13th-16th

It’s been a good week. I think.

All of the things that could have gone wrong didn’t. And a meticulously planned Tuesday ran smoothly. As you are all aware, we are now in the due diligence phase. We do not own anything, so we must behave accordingly. Though we hope to have things wrapped up in time for Christmas.

I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting to welcome all new members to this website, and in particular Ebbsfleet United supporters. More than most, we are relying on you to sell MyFootballClub to your fellow supporters, ones who may be sceptical. It’s a concept that takes some getting used to, especially if it’s your club. However, the signs are positive. Membership numbers appear to be growing in Kent. There are around 700 so far, with 400 living in the ground’s postcode and adjacent postcodes.

The media’s view on this week’s events has also been overwhelmingly positive. Even quotes from those established in the game appear to be hedging their bets.

The main criticism seems to be “if it fails, who will be left to pick up the pieces?” I believe the question shows a lack of understanding of the concept. Our Trust rules dictate that we cannot over-spend nor borrow money, unlike owners of other football clubs. So what will those pieces be, a debt-free club? The worst case scenario is MyFC membership dwindles to 2000. And if that happens, the 2,000 will more than likely be supporters of the football club, a football that they will own, unlike before.

Yesterday, one website published a particularly slanted and inaccurate view. We got in touch with the site’s owners. They apologised, said it wasn’t their opinion, and it was taken down immediately. For whatever reason, there will always be individuals who would like to see us fail.

Russian and Chinese film crews are coming to the Ebbsfleet United’s training ground next week. And I’ve been told that the phone line (they plan on getting more) is red hot at Stonebridge Road. As well as merchandise, ticket and advertising hoarding inquiries, a member from Texas phoned yesterday, and has sponsored a player for £500.

Tonight we’re meeting with members of the Ebbsfleet Supporters’ Trust. Like our Trust (My Football Club Society Ltd), theirs is also an Industrial and Provident Society. We will be conveying to them that their share in the club is safe. And that we offer them the opportunity to have even more of a say in their club. Their input, advice and experience will also be helpful, as our Trust is only a few months old.

It’s good to see that a number of members are going to the Oxford United v Ebbsfleet United game tomorrow. I’ll be there too. Ebbsfleet United directors will also be sitting among the away fans. And I’ve been contacted by journalists from almost every national newspaper, who will be sitting with us too. The final scene in Bugsy Malone springs to mind'

"All of the things that could have gone wrong didn’t." apart from MyFC members swarming over the Ebbsfleet website and patronising its members maybe.

That aside then if this is for real then there is some interesting stuff, good to see that you are talking to the Supporters Trust but hard to believe a Russian and Chinese film crew are coming over.....

Actually I was surprised that the numbers weren't higher. Remember there are 20,000+ members and there was only a direct involvement in the forum by a few dozen. And yes some were very patronising and a couple downright insulting. I apologies on their behalf as some won't have the decency to do it themselves.

The article was written by the man himself - Will Brooks - and yes, it wouldn't surprise me if Russian and Chinese crews were there. These people probably won't be coming from these countries but would be sub-contractors filming for specific Russian and Chinese stations. Over the past three months there has been a steady stream of foreign TV and radio crews and foreign journalists filming and conducting interviews with Will Brooks. The coverage MyFC has got on the international media has been quite extensive (the Scandanavians cover it regularly).

Surely, that is a small fabrication, compared with telling thousands of people they will own a club, which they won't!

Why?

Because it verges on being racist. It casts aspersions on a section of society and attempts to tar an entire people for the actions of a small few. As an Irish person I could make similar comments about all 'English' people as a result of the actions of a few over 700 years. I don't - English people weren't responsible for the actions of a tiny section of society who cared as little for the ordinary English man or woman as they did about the Irish.

Dom, you obviously haven't visited Gravesend. The great, shiny Thames Gateway is a myth. You could come in 10 years though when Ebbsfleet is built - make sure you're on a gated development though.

Rubbish Dom, nationality has nothing to do with being a scumbag, many locals have managed it for years without the need for outside help.

What the locals want is for the well-heeled MyFc members to get so involved in their club, that they move here and gentrify the area

Dom. Gravesham has been a good multi cultural borough for many years. We are all proud to live together as neighbours. Well I am. Unfortuanately we have had a huge influx of migrants. A once peaceful town is not the same any more.
