MyFC Members - motivation for joining

Recommended Posts

I would also like to point out that I do not follow one of the 'big clubs' - I have followed the Saints since childhood but, with child support, a huge mortgage and travel I cannot go to see many matches. I sometimes go to Edgar Street to watch Hereford.

As for acquiring 100% of shares, if, as I think is right, the Supporters Trust owns some - I would see know reason for the My Football Club IPS to seek to have 100% control of the club. It is a club for supporters, as every club should be. I would hate to think of a battle between MyFc and the ST.

I would have thought that the 29500 would be fans of EUFC.

Otherwise their 35 quid would be meaningless.

At the same time...how much input are the 500 getting now?

A lot of what I've read on the Forum suggests no consultation regarding the whole MFC decision.

Maybe 1.67% of something is better than 100% of nothing.

Heh - only time will tell. I think we'll have a good handle on how many fans Fleet have gained come the first MyFC Society membership renewals.

A lot of what I've read on the Forum suggests no consultation by MyFC with Fleet fans.

You miss one point Wagga, some of those original fans did have part ownership in the club(shareholders). They were not consulted, and don't seem to be able to find out if their shares are worth anything anymore! Surely Myfc should have contacted these people and made some offer to them, either buy their existing shares, or give them shares in the new scheme!

Dewsbury...agree that MFC should have consulted season ticket holders but from what I can discern it was the EUFC Board that approached MFC....and 2 guys hold 80% of the shares...not sure of club constitution but I'm thinking that equates to two guys who own the club wanting to sell it.

The Board should have canvassed the season ticket holders at least giving them the illusion that their opinion counts.

Fleet fan...mentioned the other 20% in another thread somewhere(?)...but you are right...MFC should have contacted all shareholders. I hold 1000 out of 150 million shares in QANTAS and I was contacted and offered a pro rata vote on a recent takeover bid by Aust Airline Partners...but...when 2 guys hold 80% and they want to sell...the other 0.1%'s and 0.2%'s are swept along with the tide.

At the same time it is only common courtesy (and I would think a constitutional prerequisite) that all shareholders have full and open knowledge of any dealings.

MFC site says 7 clubs approached them.

Maybe the Board kept it quiet for commercial reasons???

MFC site also says they have the option to purchase whole club...would expect all shareholders to be paid out then.

I think it will work but I don't want to see anyone ripped off.

If he is a member of MyFC - he won't own any shares in Ebbsfleet, even if the deal goes through. smile However, he will own one share in the trust that owns and controls 51% of the shares in Ebbsfleet.

Let me ask this: If MyFC gained the 80 percent and the trust/fans/others own the 20 percent and MyFC left it like that, would that be acceptable?

And I'll add this: Without joining MyFC, those who are in the trust (controlling the 20 percent) getting a say in the club like those in MyFC, would that also be acceptable?

*****

To answer the original question: I live in the Northwest U.S., pretty much an isolated soccer (football) fan with no local club to support. I've followed English soccer for years and joined MyFC to learn more about it from the grassroots level, plus put my money down with a club that would do some good with it.

Picking the team? That's what the "Coach's decision" line is for.

My main reason is to learn about non-league football, which is unknown in the U.S. except by a hearty few, from those who are there every day. I'm a football fan and I know there's more to it in England than ManU, Arsenal and the Premier League.

And yes, I'm certainly learning about it now, one thread at a time.

You do realize that "soccer" is an U.K.-originated term for the game, right?

And to go by your "When in Rome", I'm sitting in the Northwest U.S., so it is soccer. Or, do you want me to call it futbol?

****

Since you seem to be one of the few Fleet fans here on this board (even though you are in New York...), would you mind answering my question earlier. I want to know what you think.
