The greatest rock band ever - an alternative poll

Recommended Posts

Well, I am more of a Radiohead fan myself, but apparently that doesn't mix well with football. It's a shame Croydon can't run out to Creep (lyrics "what the hell am I doing here, I don't belong here).
You can't put Oasis up there, I know they're a great band saw them at Knebworth in '96, but the're only good for 2 albums. Metallica were big when I was at school, but so where Guns'N'Roses and Nirvana and do they get a mention?? (sorry I am going in to one here).
Has to be Led Zep, simple as. smile.gif" border="0

While I'm here I would have to agree that Oasis and Led Zep are streets ahead of the competition there. Oasis WERE only good for two albums but are coming back (ish). It doesn't really matter to me anyway 'cos I'm going to see them on July 6th anyway! (One day before my birthday)
Radiohead on the other hand (as I'm sure Steve will agree with me ), have made five superb albums, each one completely different from the other! tongue.gif" border="0

I'd still try and catch Oasis live, but they have been hit with being too good too soon. Nothing else they've done matches up to 'whats the story' or 'definately maybe' and ok, earlier on there weren't just two good albums, the B-sides were awesome, 'good to be free' and 'Acquiese' are great songs.
Saw Radiohead at South Park last year, fantastic. I am going to Glasto this year, at least 1 of the 140,000 people there will be a Chesham fan. Will probably also catch the New Order gig at Finsbury Park.
As for Led Zep, Robert Plant is touring again, I think their best album is either Led Zep 2 or 4, both not too bad.

Nobody ever mentions "Physical Graffiti" when talking about Led Zeppelin - their best album in my humble opinion. Still not a patch on "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida", though.
Ironically, The Who (whom I voted for) only did one album that would describe as "great" ("Who's Next"), but you can assemble a collection of sogs of theirs which compares more than favourably with anyone, whether on the list or not (I won't go into details - suffice to say that "Substitute" didn't even appear on a studio album untilthey started churning out the "greatest hits").

Oasis only made 2 good albums?

By Oasis' standards, no Be Here Now and Standing on the shoulders of giants are not as good as their first two albums, but if they had been released by another group they would be by far their best albums.

Noel had two weeks to write all the songs for Be Here Now, and off the whole album there are probably two or three songs that I skip when listening to the cd, no more than that.
