A valuable contribution anon. Not.

Until the first foundations are laid (or even later if you take the Wealdstone PEPF example) I think it is sensible not to get carried away. Too much can go wrong and though I am sure Liam and everybody else connected with the club would like these proposals to go through and the new stadium is built, there is not a whole lot to be optimistic about until those ideas and plans become reality.

Of course we should not count our chickens before they hatch..but the important thing is that the club has bent over backwards to get this all sorted and have acheived a lot even if the deals falls flat ..The point is people are trying and all the support is needed..and that means all of us...

I am sure that it will not be plain sailing , but its the best we have had for 9 years !

cheers chris sliski personally..

Personally, im worried, we were told/ASSURED the first date was set in stone and now it seems to have slipped back. I keep thinking that if everything was set up correctly and there were no objections why has it been put on the 'back burners' for the best part of a month. I know a lot of people have put in a lot of hard work on this proposal and for their sake as well as the future of Slough Town i truly hope with all my heart it goes through, I (in many ways like Liam) am just worried its another false dawn. And TBH i think the way things have been recently if we dont get the ground we wont have a club.

How can the date have been assured? The plans and prooposal was continually being sent back and forth between the council and Jayne with amendments being made.

Given the scale of the project as a whole, it is hardly surprising that some slips have occurred. The project is a fantastic proposition for the club which we must do our best to support, but as with most people, I'll be happier once the building work starts and everything is finally confirmed.

To put in a bit of perspective, Horsham have apparently taken 2 years to get to the stage with their plans for a new ground; so we have really covered a lot of ground in a very short period of time. Gary's right, planning applications of this magnitude will be batted back and forth with council officers until they are submitted to the council. Basically we need the council officers to recommend approval so its worth working with them as closely as possible which can take time.

Marcus we are dealing with the council as quick as they allow us..they have the answers we dont ..and a timetable can be changed ..we have to follow what they want us too..we can not force the issue...

so what do you suggest is the next plan ? if this fails .. have you got a plan B ...if you have then let me know...hope you've been burning the midnight oil and attending lots and lots of meetings to sort the next step out...

My main problem with it all is the fact that without this thread, many people would have continued to assume that we would have had a decision this Thursday. Since the main meeting updates on the whole project have been pretty thin on the ground.

There will be loads of little bumps in the road which will push back the decision though. I know very little about the details of the plans except for what was said in the open meeting, but I am aware that little amendments had to be made for whatever reason before the plans were delivered on Friday. There may be more amendments to come, I don't know.

Now people have December 18th as the date in their heads - but in reality it will probably be in the New Year.

I'm a natural pessimist as well, so I'm with the rest of you - but things seem to be going in the right direction at the moment.

I personally cant see us in a new ground till the 2009/2010 season for a number of reasons:

To get the planning issues out of the way and any potential objections from locals.

Time to build the ground - the old school needs demolishing first!

Also the pitch will need time to bed in and settle - remember Windsors bog!

And finally if we get it up and running before April 09 (only 17 months away) will the league allow us to change grounds mid way through a season?

To the question about supporting the club financially, expect to be putting your hands in your pockets for some time - unless a new source of income is forthcomming, it will be up to the fans alone.

Totally agree with Chris S that this is the best opertunity in the last 9 years - lets not waste it!

Did i suggest a plan? No. Did i say i have a good idea? No. Did i actually criticise anyone to do with the planning application in any way shape or form? No. Did i merely say that the fact that this is having stumbling blocks in slighly worrying? Yes. Stop taking everything as a personal dig at you.Im sure the project manager is doing the best the can, and im sure dealing with the council is awkward which was why i was so sceptical in the first place when we were told of this GOLDEN DATE.

The proposed site for our new ground only came onto the market, quite unexpectedly, this time last year and our people had to work mighty fast and smart to get it. We have not yet submitted a planning application but hope to be in a position to do so either just before Christmas or shortly afterwards but even that is not yet certain. Success is by no means guaranteed, however, because, for one thing, no matter what agreements are reached with council officials or how far any project ticks all the various strategy/policy boxes, the ultimate decision rests with elected members, who will respond according to the immediate political circumstances.

Over a decade's experience of this sort of thing, involving consideration of two other what seemed at the time like firm sites and a number of other possibilities has served only to confirm that it can be a very unpredictable and frustrating business indeed. That said, all you can do is stick at it. We have been very lucky in the sense that all the time these delays were taking place, our asset-the ground-was increasing in value at an unprecedented pace. The active involvement of an architect and a solicitor, both of whom are well versed in national and local planning/development issues, has proved as invaluable to us as I hope Jayne Bradbury's will be to you.

One has only to read the various threads on this board to appreciate the passion that so many contributors have for Slough Town Football Club, albeit expressed in different ways. Please try, however difficult it may seem, to stick together and demonstrate to Slough council that there are still good reasons for having a senior non-league football club in the town.

Best wishes,

David Hillier

What is the "one" though? I'm getting very confused about what we are suppossed to be backing these days.
