Local club for local people?

Pepperhill

Recommended Posts

A few weeks back some of you guys and gals were wishing there was more people interested in the Fleet; wanting more of the casual once or twice a season fans to become regulars, hoping higher attendances might spur the team on to great things.

I was intending to take my boy to a game (his first football match) the next time I wasn‘t working, thinking ebbsfleet being on my doorstep would be a good and safe start. But after reading some of the posts over the last 2 nights I’m not so sure. I think there is real hatred between fleet fans and MyFC. As I have a “funny” accent (not local) would my child and I be singled out for abuse even though we have no part of MyFC? Would all future casual fans be branded MyFC, johnny come latelys? Or am I reading too much into all this and it will all blow over . . . . . .

I think you're reading too much into that certainly. No Fleet fan would have anything to do with violence.... unless it's kicking the dog after another FA Cup defeat.

Please Pepperhill, don't ever be worried about bringing your boy to the Fleet, I bring three, you won't ever be harmed because of your accent or the colour of your skin or the shirt you're wearing, whatever has happened to us, name change or change of ownership we are still your local club. You need have no fear from any of the true Fleet fans. Whatever happens to Ebbsfleet united there will always be a Gravesend and Northfleet football club, Stonebridge road, Northfleet, Kent and will be forever.

I am one of the MyFC people and i don't class my self an owner or any better than anyother Ebbsfleet fan.

I am certainly not a "local" i am from Hertfordshire and I took the opportunity to be a part of something new and exciting.

I love football and i am a Liverpool fan, i have always followed lower league football but never had a club to support, i hope to grow and become an Ebbsfleet Fan/Supporter over this season and hopefully many more to come, i will Buy Shirts, Pay my membership, turn up to some home games and also a few away games.

They will become a team i can afford to support and in years to come when someone says "why do you support Ebbslfeet" instead of saying "because my dad followed them" or "because they won everything in the 80's" i'll be able to say i was part of something that gave football back to the fans.

I won't be turning up in an Football Shirt with owner on it but i also wouldn't want to think that i wouldn't be welcome at games.....?

LOL - I thought Liam's granny was the first point of attack !

Liams granny gets it before the game to ensure a win...after that hasn't worked we all go and kick Stu's dog.

Try and keep up.

There are loads of non league clubs in Hertfordshire - why don't you come and support one of them?

I think the laws of mutual exclusivity apply here! brille008

It's quite a strange experience for me as i am a Welling United supporter who are very local to Ebbsfleet. My excitement hasn't dwinled though, i'm still going to get myseld down to Gravesend and support my 'new' team.

Whatever team, there are always a few hardcore fans who use football as an output for their miserable lives. I was down in Bath watching Torquay play the other week and people were throwing bottles! Unfortunately it's the way football can be. I've seen Gravesend play a few times in the past against the Wings and the fans have been fine as a whole, so i wouldn't worry about it.

That is ridiculous. "Hatred" is a strong word and I see little evidence of it on this forum. Those who oppose are merely trying to understand why the deal has gone through and are trying to get their heads round the change. Nobody is being singled out at all its the whole concept and the board that have angered a lot of people.

A lot of stuff on forums can be taken out of context. Everyone respects anyone who can get out of their armchair and support their local team. Whether you are MyFc or not getting to a game and having a banter is a great leveller.

I can't understand the fella who supports and has a team in Welling now becoming a Fleet supporter! They're only one div below and nearly made the play-off's last year. Surely Welling need your support more than Gravesend now do.

This excitement in the fan involvement thing in picking the team and stuff is surely a bit of gloss to make members feel more involved and feel better in parting with £35. I still think all the key decisions will be down to the Team Manager, sorry coach and nothing much will change apart from 20,000 people thinking they own a football club and Fleet having a wad of cash to build some new toilets

Yeah, because football clubs in Hertfordshire are few on the ground! You love football, but not enough to put your money into one of the local clubs that really need it. Sums up the my football club ltd (make a couple of people richer) ethos to me.

Having said that, a Gillingham shirt is NEVER a good look - not just at Fleet, but in general!

Turn up with your smallie, you will enjoy the game and the atmosphere. You may even want to return!

Careful now, I reckon a Maidstone derby could be one of the only things to look forward to if the doom & gloom merchants are correct.

With a new ground coming it could be Maidstone who are the second biggest team in Kent in a couple of years
