They'd have to find a very, very, very stupid bookmaker to start with. One without the necessary clauses in its rules to avoid paying out on that combination of bet and fixing. Bookmakers which are that badly run don't tend to be large enough to have the funds to pay out over £1.75m in winnings that that scheme would have to generate to be profitable.

No, really it isn't. Bookmakers are constantly on the look out for suspicous betting activity and have all kinds of rules to avoid paying out when it takes place.

Can you imagine £1.75m being placed on Ebbsfleet to lose being seen as anything other than suspicious?
