Middlesex Cups

May I be so bold as to make a suggestion about the last two remaining cup competitions we are in? We must take these seriously and not put out fringe players just to keep them happy. This club needs a major morale boost both on and off the pitch and good runs and possibly even a pot at the end of the season would certainly help this. Success breeds success!

Agreed 100 per cent. Don't have any objection to some squad players getting a game, but the teams fielded must be strong enough to compete against the opposition on view.

And a cup run, any cup run, would do wonders for morale.

Town will also be playing in the Quarter Final of the Middx Premier Cup against Wealdstone on Wednesday next week, at Ruislip Manor's ground. I commend the match report of last night's performance at Leyton, culminating in Luke Marshall's winner in injury time at the end of extra time. And well done to both Jamie Nay and Glenn Harvey for lasting the full two hours last night. It's just a shame that nobody told the ref that the rules provide for penalties at 90 mins!

The following week we'll be hosting the winner of Ware v Brimsdown, in the Q/F of the Capital League Cup.

Two further silver(ish)ware opportunities.

Sunday the Ladies are home to Hillingdon Abbotts in the quarter final of the Middlesex Senior cup and when we win it looks like a trip to our old 'friends' Barnet in the semi final.

I demand a replay! I got home half an hour later than I needed to for no reason! It'd never happen in the Potters Bar Charity Cup! grin

I left PBT last summer. Now "retired " from club admin! smile Generally floating around as a groundhopper now and have only seen a couple of Potters Bar games this season.

As I understand it, there is no U18 side this year as the Academy scheme that was planned didn't happen for some reason. Reserves are still going strong. Kevin Head took over the running of the team from Mike Locke a couple of weeks ago and they are currently in the top three in Suburban League Div 1.

David received a parrot for his birthday. The parrot was fully grown with a bad attitude and worse vocabulary. Every other word was an expletive. Those that weren't expletives, were, to say the least, rude.

David tried hard to change the bird's attitude and was constantly saying polite words, playing soft music, anything he could think of to try and set a good example...

Nothing worked. He yelled at the bird and the bird yelled back. He shook the bird and the bird just got more angry and more rude. Finally, in a moment of desperation, David put the parrot in the freezer.

For a few moments he heard the bird squawk and kick and scream - then suddenly, there was quiet. Not a sound for half a minute. David was frightened that he might have hurt the bird and quickly opened the freezer door.

The parrot calmly stepped out onto David's extended arm and said, "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I will endeavour at once to correct my behaviour. I really am truly sorry and beg your forgiveness."

David was astonished at the bird's change in attitude and was about to ask what had made such a dramatic change when the parrot continued, "May I ask what the chicken did wrong?"
