One thing I certainly don't agree with

Recommended Posts

The MFC people seem to be saying that all the present employees of the club will keep their jobs.

Yesterday 20,000 new customers for the club shop turned up, unlike us oldies they don't already own shirts, scarves, hats, waterproof jackets, badges, carstickers, calendars etc...

It is the biggest marketing opportunity in the clubs history and yet none of them can find anywhere to buy club merchandise.

If we do not take advantage of this opportunity NOW I can think of one person who shouldn't keep his job.

It is six weeks to Christmas, 20,000 people should be getting a fleet shirt from Santa.

My four kids have already asked for one for Christmas.

That's scary, its sounding more & more like a cult every day. What's wrong with your kids, why don't they want a Man Utd shirt?

Slarti,

Thats why as a club we are in this mess because we have't got a sales and marketing department comptetant to do the job. Great at selling adverts in the program, hordings and sponsor a kit but absolutely jack about marketing the club. We are a reactive club not a proactive one. We all moan about missed opportunities but the club only have itself to blame for another fiasco. I think Mr Botley should be proud of what he has implemented this year. NOT

Agreed.

For main web site not to be uploaded, or at least some of it in place, is pathetic, frankly.

OK, they ned a new server, but make web site read only with a few pages of up to date info. Heck, I can do that myself for them, for free. AND host it. its easy.

Maybe a local sports shop can step in and make a mint?

I agree with this thread. Saying "they've only had a day" is rubbish. The G&N board, the Head Coach, the (although this is being questioned) Supporters Trust etc have been in discussions with MyFC for weeks. The statement was a joint statement. It didn't take the G&N bosses by surprise ffs! The extra hits on the website were inevitable and predictable. Why they didn't move to a server with higher bandwidth last week in advance of the announcement can only be explained by one thing - incompetence. Personally, it is the admin staff I will be paying more attention to than the playing staff when the takeover goes through. I find it astonishing that the camera person is paid on a per copy basis and retains rights. Any half-decent organisation would sign him to a full buyout deal (and pay him a proper fee not chump change). The more I discover about behind-the-scenes stuff at G&N the more I question the competence of the people currently running the day to day activities of the club. And why the hell are Charlton's women's team allowed to play at Stonebridge whilst at the same time G&N's own ladyteam is playing at some poxy leisure centre. Kicking Charlton out in favour of G&N's women is the first thing I will strongly push for when we formally take over the club.

That's the situation as far as my involvement was concerned, yes. I didn't know anything until Sunday evening when I had to update the site with the news.

Slarti, I agree with you once again. But I don't think the opportunity is going to be short-lived. I had to wait 9 weeks for my MyFC shirt because of a distribution mistake, but I'm still glad to have it now.

If I have to wait a few weeks to order the team shirt, it won't kill me. I'd love to be wearing it today, of course, but like most MyFC members, we plan to be around a long time. In fact, we had several discussions about merchandise on the MyFC site and every one came back to the fact that we asked MyFC members only to buy from sources where the most funds went directly to the club.

We've been described here as a cult. Hyperbole, obviously, but our enthusiasm for this idea, and now for this club, does feel that way, without the creepy Kool-Aid and bedsheets thing.

And if the deal doesn't go through, I won't be asking for a shirt refund. That's fair enough.

The site in its present guise has only been around since August and an online shop had not been implemented by then. I imagine merchandise will be one of the club's main priorities in the short term, however, so I'd expect some kind of announcement about it when the dust has settled.

I would have no problem with that.

I would also like to point out that I had absolutely no idea that this was coming.
If I had known in advance, then I would have had fully edited & produced Match DVD's and 'Season So Far Review' DVD's ready to go on sale immediately.
