I am a Halifax Town fan who has just heard the sad news about the untimely death of your once proud club. I just thought I'd take a moment to pass on my heartfelt condolences to you all.

 

I think this is a terribly sad day for football and, more importantly, for the community which surrounds your club. These vultures have torn the focal point of that community from its moorings, and placed it as the centre-piece of THEIR own,new-born little £35-a-throw community, with all the lack of history, empathy and passion that that entails.

 

Reading these boards, I see there are already a number of MFC trolls gloating about stealing your club - but don't be fooled by the more reasoned members either. Just because they talk the talk and claim to have respect and empathy etc. doesn't mean they aren't usurping your club from under your noses. Just because they are being nice about it, doesn't mean they are life long fans. They are ripping the heart from your club - even if you go up this year or next - don't lose sight of that. Because you will hit a level from where you can't progress (might be League 1, might be League 2 - who knows) but this type of investment cannot go any further than that. When you hit the inevitable plateau, they will get bored (what fun is Championship Manager if you can't actually win anymore?) and they will not renew their annual membership and will leave your club with a load of overpaid players who they bought for you whose wages you can no longer afford, as your income has plummetted. You will borrow to stay afloat, you will rack up debts and you will crash and burn. I would confidently bet £35 that you will be in the Conference South within 5 years of today. Sorry, but thats how it is.

 

So what can you do? As the arrogant gits have already gloatingly reminded you, there are 20,000 of them and only 1,000 of you. One of them even suggested sending MFC an e-mail! Gosh, that'll change the world won't it?

 

My own suggestion would be to resort to much more direct action. You should all pay your £35 and become joint owners of the club. But instead of joining in, use your new found status to picket the turnstiles. The police cannot stop you - the club cannot stop you - you will be as much a legal owner of the place as any other director. Make it as hard as possible for them to achieve anything and keep that ground as empty as possible. I know that will stick in the throat with you all, but it is your only hope of a proper long-term future. You really would be doing it for the greater good of the club. As far as I can see, this is about your only viable option.

 

Once again, whatever happens, the genuine fans amongst you have my deepest and most heartfelt sympathy at the death of your club. I wish you all the very best for your futures.
