What's in a Name? Everything.

As everyone knows who's been on the forum today, I'm a newcomer to EUFC. I have a great deal to learn about the club's history and culture, that's a given. But I'd specifically like to know why the name was changed. And is the change irrevocable? MyFC have no desire to change it, but it seems that virtually all the supporters here resent the new name. If that's the case, why can it not revert to the rightful name? Or is there a legal reason it must remain EUFC?

The team plays in Northfleet. The club is made up of the two teams that were called Gravesend United and Northfleet United, they merged in 1946.

Gravesend and Northfleet are two seperate towns and so took the name of both towns. Ebbsfleet International station will open on Monday, what a coincidence, and so the whole area will soon become known as Ebbsfleet nr Ebbsfleet. Ebbsfleet will be our Gatwick, Heathrow, Wembley, Aresenal etc...

In very potted format as I really must go to bed, the name was changed with the two-pronged goal of achieving better gates in the long-term through the expansion of population expected in the 'Ebbsfleet' area over the next 10 years, and the capture of more revenue from businesses (such as sponsors Eurostar) who would be attracted to the 'new' area as a result of its regeneration. It was felt these businesses and new population would identify more with the Ebbsfleet name than they would the town of Gravesend.

In other words Botley saw it as his last throw of the dice to try and get investment into the club and people through the turnstyles. Little did he realise that he had another dice in the other pocket that he threw this morning. Goodnight x
