13th Enfield Town on 13th November

W 8-2 v Waltham Abbey

L 3-0 v Wingate & Finchley

D 1-1 v Brentwood

D 2-2 v Arlesey

W 2-0 v Wivenhoe

L 0-2 v Canvey Island

 

So Father Jack the form guide says W 2 D 2 L 2. = 8 points from 18 possible.

 

Wingate & Finchley deserved to win and although I didn't see the Canvey game I expect they deserved to win too! Mid-table at best!

A frustrating night - we played well for 17 minutes and could have been 2 or 3 up. Then Ryan Edgar hit that screamer and our fragile confidence packed up and left by the nearest fire exit.

 

Thanks to the Canvey fans for singing some amusing songs about sheep. (And, for some reason, Shrewsbury?)

We hate Shrewsbury!!!!

 

You were the better side until Ryan Edgar scored. After that we settled down and played really well. Don't know how we didn't score more in the second half, we missed at least three guilt edged chances.

 

Our defence had an excellent game. Your guys played some good football at times but definitely that first goal knocked your confidence and improved ours.

 

Great atmosphere and some good banter.

First 20 mins we were great. When was the last time we had four shots on target that early in the game, including one off the woodwork? But why did the spirits drop after their excellent first goal. Ouor website says that we were unlucky not to be in the lead at halftime. I understand the comment but to be honestafter the first 20 it was all Canvey. The second have was garbage and we barely had an attack in the last 15. No encouragement from the bench (just some abuse). We will not make the play offs unless major changes are made.

Plenty of abuse from Town's captain as well towards his own team. Seems that the attitude of SOME of the management team is catching on.

 

Poor display. Given a lesson in committment, tactics and football by a better team. Time to learn. Time for drastic change.

Can't argue with most of what's been said on here, we started excellently, and if one of those chances had gone in during the first twenty minutes, I think things would have been different. Canvey reminded me a lot of Edgware in that once they took the lead, then worked very very hard to keep it - those two centre mids didn't stop running, and could play a bit as well. I'm convinced that if it was them chasing the game, then we'd have got a lot more space, and would have created more, but then to be fair, they scored their goal, and we didn't.

 

What's a bit worrying is that we didn't really look like breaking them down after we went a goal down. When they scored their second, we had a couple of decent chances, which we didn't put away, then we were chasing shadows until the last 10 minutes, when we made a couple more chances.

 

That said, there were a few positives from where I was. Firstly, it was good to see Matt Negus playing again, and as usual, he gave us some width, and looked comfortable on the ball. I also liked the look of Yoxall up front, he seemed mobile, quite strong, and looked to take a touch and bring other players into the game, which might be what we're missing. Also, Nyamah looked good for spells, and once fully fit looks like he'll be a real asset.

 

Other than that, a pretty disappointing day at the office, and fair play to Canvey, who showed that hard work and good organisation goes a long way in this league. On a final note, I know that not all players are available for every game, and having a big squad helps us get around that, but I can't help but think that we'd be more effective if we had a more settled side...
