u18s away to Rams

On paper two even sides, on the pitch something else. I have to admit I did have some reservations.

2 minutes silence then into the game. An early attach by Margate drew a hand ball in the area (bit harsh) which Joe Tatlor cooly put away. So with only 3 mins on the clock Margate were off to a dream start. All one sided as Margate were the far better side in all departments. 15 minutes on and it was 2 nil as McClean (on great form) turned in the area for the shot.

Rams came back but had little effect as Margate defence looked tight and mid-field built the play.

With 5 mins to go a good move from the left caused Rams to panic and failed to clear. The ball falling to Joe to drive home, 0-3.

Second half and the rain came but did little to dampen Margates resolve, but the game did even a little. However, Dan G B & McClean ran Rams defence ragged and on 65 McClean was onto a through ball, passed defence and nutmegged the keeper for 0-4. Rams were losing the plot and a second booking for Nick Tredwell reduced them to 10. Late on a great passing move started by Jamie McClean and involving Joe Taylor and Hughesy was cooly finished by McClean for his hat-trick and Margate 5th. Rams were down and out as their youngsters could not match Margate. Mat Bowles had to make a couple of good saves and once again Dan Hughes turned in a wonderful performance. Final whistle for 0-5 and it was anything last years u18s can do........ Cold light of day, Margate were up for this one and Rams were far from what I expected but a win is a win especially on this derby. Now need to carry this to Canterbury. Well done lads.
