Actually this was probably the least surprising result of the season so far, for me anyway, the impressively open report admits that 'the physical side to this league has finally taken its toll on the Ambers youngsters'.

CHESHUNT RESERVES 0 BUCKINGHAM ATHLETIC 2
Molten Spartan South Midlands League Division 1
Saturday 10th November 2007

The officials and the visitors were delayed in getting to Theobalds Lane for this fixture but the referee Mr Beardon was in a hurry to get home, so kick off went ahead as planned at 3pm. This meant a rushed preparation for both clubs.

The ambers were without keeper Brian Seeley & midfielder Brett Graham who were both called up to the 1st team.

The visitors despite being late arrivals started the match better than the home side and were first to every ball. They appeared hungrier than the ambers, who were looking a bit jaded after recent hard games. The visitors were denied by a very good double save by Justin Moseley, he parried Benjafield’s shot and quickly got to his feet to save Bennett’s rebound.
At the other end the ambers were denied when Ryan Dear’s header was headed over the bar by the defender on the line.
Moseley made another good save from Benjafield’s free kick managing to tip it round the post. The ambers appeared half a yard off the pace and their final pass in the opposition’s third was also poor.

Half time the game was goalless.

The visitor’s keeper Colin Johnstone’s long kicks were causing the ambers problems, and straight after half time Ryan Dear misjudged one in the strong wind and it allowed Andy Bennett to find the bottom corner of Moseley’s net with a pea roller.

The ambers for the first time this season seemed unable to respond and went two behind on 60 minutes when Jason Benjafield picked up a loose ball about 25 yards and his lovely strike arrowed into the top corner giving Moseley no chance.
The ambers to their credit dug in and took the game to Buckingham to get back in the game.

Jimmy Martin was denied by a fabulous save when his shot from a pinpoint Raf Mawyufuma cross was net bound but somehow Johnstone turned it onto the post and out for a corner. The ambers tried everything but were unable to find the killer pass to get them back in the game.

The match ended 2-0 to the visitors and over the piece they deserved their victory. This was the first defeat for the ambers in nine games, the physical side to this league has finally taken its toll on the ambers youngsters.

The ambers have a well earned week off now and need to re-charge their batteries, get some of the niggling injuries cleared up, before travelling to New Bradwell St Peter in a fortnight.
