good point repoman,as night follows day so bowers run comes to an end at home to clapton.massive improvement for Basildon today ok we lost to an average stansted team at home but we actually looked like a 'team' today and at no point did the heads go down. im not even going to mention our new boy at number 4 but every match he plays for us will be have to be seen as a bonus.

They have more people watching, but don't get better gates.
Gates are the people who come through a turnstile and pay £5 a go to watch the match, so numbers dosen't come into it that way.

Agreed with the general consensus on Basildon. The looked like was a team and, although you could see there was an inevitable lack of confidence, they didn't let their heads drop and gave it their all for the 90 minutes (or, at least, the parts I saw between clubhouse visits).

There's also one or two lads that you can see have some natural ability so there is cause for just a little optimism.

Thatnk you, Beeswax, nice to be back.

After all the coins and fluids thrown at us by those nice Nottingham Forest fans upon Southend's visit to the North Midlands last week, and after seeing the new coaching set-up at the club, I remembered just how good it is and involved you can get in the ESL.

I always keep an eye on the results in the Echo and now, as Joe said he loved every minute of yesterday despite the result, our gate money will in future be going a lot more regularly to Gardiners Close.

Must agree a much improved performance from Basildon yesterday, thought the number 4 was outstanding, lets hope we can hang on to him.Cant remember Antony Hughes the Basildon keeper having to make a save, must say we looked better in the second half after the changes were made but still need some decent forwards, cant see where the next goal is coming from.Need to keep improving as Enfield are up next.

If you're going to play only one upfront then it needs to be someone who can hold the ball up and play most of the 90 mins with their back to goal. Grant Allen is more of an "off the shoulder" player, ala Michael Owen. Everytime Basildon got the ball they just pumped it forward and saw it swallowed up by the Stansted defence.

I would have preferred to see Eugene up front with Rob Pudney at Centre Back. With Jamie Cross or Joe Corey at Right Back, Grant could have then gone to the right hand side.

Easy being an armchair manager innit! grin

GS, I must admit I was getting mighty fed up with the "police state" in league football. I became tired of being treated as a third class citizen (with absolutely no rights) on a match-day as soon as I donned a replica shirt. This is why I became more involved in non-league and how I eventually "landed" at Basildon United. I doubt if I will ever step inside a league ground again but could be persuaded if it was a visit to Aggborough !!!!!!!!!! gringrin

I must admit that my first and last trip to Notts Forest was one of the worst afternoon's in a football ground, what with the moron fans in red shirts and the even more moronic stewards who were throwing people out for sneezing in the wrong place.

It would be good to see you and Joe at Gardiners Close again.

Well, I'm pleased to confirm we will once again be shunning Roots Hall next week in favour of Bees v Leeds Un ... oops, sorry, Enfield 1893. Joe doesn't care where he is, he loves his football and will watch it anywhere. From Roma to Romford, he just loves the game, as does his Dad.

With you all the way on league grounds although it will be a hard habit to break. I must admit I didn't help matters when, upon seeing one of the miscreants at Nottingham, advising the stewards and being told just to shut up, I shuffled a 20p piece up towards him and commented "There you are young man. Go and buy yourself a house. And keep the change." Not clever with hindsight but it brought a little black humour to proceedings.

Agreed on Aggborough too. When Bees are back on their feet and realising some of their potential (and I was one of the 1,800 there for the Vase match against Irthlingborough Diamonds in the 80's, so I know the places HAS potential), we could go there in an FA Trophy match. Or, better still, FA Cup. Those Cottage Pies, real ales, and directors lounge will make for a welcome return.

It's always good to see you, too, and with the presence of a Shrimpers legend in the club I dare say Basildon United will feature much more prominently in Joe and I's leisure time again. A win would be nice though.
