canvey gonna get flooded again

Canvey councillor Ray Howard, a member of the Essex flood defence panel, said: "Problems are predicted because of a North West gale force wind combined with a possible surge tide of 1.1m. I personally think Norfolk will be the most severely affected.

 

"The agency will close all the barriers at Canvey and I will be down there to monitor the situation."

 

Mr Howard said high tide would be shortly before midnight. He reassured Canvey residents they are well protected by the island's sea defences.

 

He said: "It does annoy me that they include Canvey in these warnings, because we have got the best seawalls and the best internal drainage system in the country."
