Hitchin 1 Billericay 0

Recommended Posts

I know we have a small squad and a lot of injuries, but this is still an appalling result. There's no real excuse for not beating club's who are struggling to stay in the league.

I can't see fans coming back or new fans being attracted with results like this, it will just mean even more leaving as the season is really beginning to fizzle out.

I can't see how we are going to get anything other than a thrashing against Aldershot. I've tried to stay confident, but my confidence in the team is slowly completely going as we continue to get disappointing results. We got a good result at Basingstoke, but only draw at Enfield and lose at Hitchin, it's not good enough.

Andy, unless you were actually at the game then you should refrain from any comment. You've done this a few times now, reacted on seeing the result, then put the boot in. You don't seem to realise the damage you do in slating the club with silly remarks. Hitchin are battling against relagation, just as Birmingham were when they beat Liverpool, just because a team is in a lowly position doesn't mean we have a devine right to beat them. What this club needs at the moment is it's supporters to support it through what is a difficult period, not ones that sit at home watching Arsenal, see the Billericay score, then proceed to tell the world how crap we are and that everybody will desert the Club. Here's a suggestion for you Andy. On saturday morning a few of us are leaf-letting the High Street and other areas around Billericay in a bid to advertise games and raise the profile of the club. Why not come along and helpout? I think I already know the answer.

For your information Andy, a young and inexperienced Billericay side done us proud at Hitchin tonight. We were missing Jerome John, Gary Henty, Russell Penn, Ollie Adedji, Paul Fewings and of course Jamie Wallace. But then you wouldn't know that, not being there!

couldnt agree more with ryan..some people are busting a gut to try and help the club, heard a rumour last night that the chairman has also made a substantial cash input into the club, the players are taking wage cuts, the management are working on a shoestring etc, and all some people can do is put their feet up in front of the telly and moan like fuk. come on Andy get out there and support your club!!

I didn't think we played that badly last night at all. Very much a scratch side that have no doubt played very little together. I don't believe players like Gary Ansell and Danny Gilley were particularly fit and Hitchin gave us very little time or space on the ball, but created little themselves. Their freekick was their only shot on target and that went in iff the post. Officials were hopeless again, often contradicting each other.

We deserved a point (probably not much more as we created very little - Gary Ansell's the best I can remember).

Only disappointments from a team perspective were: Mark Graham really didn't seemed to be in the game. Williams was his usual poor self at the moment and Andy Douglas really didn't seem to put the effort in. The rest should be congratulated - especially Danny Kerrigan and Mark Fay who had really good games.

Team: Fay,

Kerrigan, Savidge, Snowsill, Gilley,

Graham ®, Morris, Williams, Graham (M),

Ansell, Douglas

Subs (none used): Merritt, Alexander, Pitts, Lightfoot and one other from the reserves who I have forgotten (sorry).

Agree with Ryan and jl, if you want to criticise a performance you have to be at the game. It would have been easy last night with a fair distance to travel and a 7.30 kick-off to stay at home and watch the football on the box but there were 18 supporters at the game last night excluding the officials on the coach. The players were gutted as the supporters when the goal went in, I don’t know why they got the free kick anyway. I thought it was an excellent team performance and credit to BTFC. Some established players have lost their touch lately but the effort was there. I think Danny Keerigan was man of the match but he was marginally ahead of Danny Snowsill and Nicky Savidge who were everywhere in defence and Mark Fay who gave another confident display.

I'd like to reply to all the criticism directed at me. I haven't once mentioned the performance of the team. Everytime all I have mentioned is the result. I criticised the result not the performance. The only time I have criticised the team is for two individual players who I had seen not playing well(Snowsill and Lee Williams).I am sure Liverpool fans were unhappy when they lost at Birmingham as they were expected to beat them. Any fan whose club lose is naturally disappointed, without seeing the game I can only go by result. I am at university in Norwich so can't get to many games particularly as I can't drive. None of you can tell me to get out there and support the club as you don't know what matches I've been to this season. We all have different opinions and I have the right to express mine and I felt as a supporter of the club we should have got a better result. I know it was a late goal, but that doesn't stop me being disappointed. I know we don't have a devine right to beat them no team does, but you can't tell me Liverpool fans would not be disappointed if they lost at West Brom or Bolton(going by equivalent league positions not teams). I am pleased to hear we put in a good performance, but performance isn't everything the result is important as well. Hearing about the performance has given me a bit more confidence for Saturday(Went over the top saying we would get thrashed)I didn't say we were crap or that everybody will desert the club. I said that whilst people see the club not doing overly well our support is unlikely to increase. I for one will be watching games when I can because I support my local club. Finally to reiterate I HAVEN'T CRITICISED THE PERFORMANCE OF ANY MATCHES I HAVEN'T BEEN TO, ONLY THE RESULT.

I am Andy Walsh's twin brother and decided to reply to the criticism directed at him. We are both at university and can only watch games when we are at home from university in the holidays. After reading Andy's original post, he did go over the top with some of his comments, but the general message was correct. For a fan to not be upset after the team loses, you would question whether they are a true fan. To say the result is appalling is a bit strong, but is still not good enough for a club with ambition.

Ryan C, you were very quick to judge Andy on helping out with distributing leaflets. If you knew our circumstances, then maybe you would have made a different comment. We would help the club, but are in Norwich until the beginning of April. We would both be more than willing to help the club for the last four weeks of the season and from June to the end of September. Others have questioned our support for Billericay at games, but when we are back in Billericay we will go to as many games as possible, especially all the home games. If we weren't interested in Billericay Town then why would we have created a web site and spend our limited money on the club. Lastly, this is a forum for expressing opinions about Billercay Town, not criticising what people put in their posts. You can disagree with people's comments and respond to them, but not personally criticise the person. If you are going to criticise people personally, then you should at least get your facts straight.

The Walsh Brothers

It might be difficult for you to get to matches due to your circumstances but be very careful with the choice of words if you want to comment. You cannot describe the match as being ‘an appalling result’ without knowing what has happened in the game. We will play worse in the future and win – we have on many occasions this season. Take the message on board and think about the words you use – writing ‘a disappointing result’ would have not have started all this aggression and you would still be known as the good match result predictor.

That's a good point about Andy's choice of words, but he probably only wrote it as a heated instant reaction to the result without knowing the performance. Although, you can still comment on a result without knowing the performance. In future I will make sure he uses less strong words. Also, I'd like to make the point that we both predict the results, so he doesn't deserve all the credit. We will make a prediction later this week and preview the Aldershot match on our website.

I did not travel but am encouraged with the comments from the travelling fans. We still have a part to play this season. There are some good young players at the club and I hope they become first team favourites and provide us with a strong subs bench for next year.

Well done the Team, Management, Chairman and most of all the dedicated fans.

It's bollox - the team's [****!!****], the Manager is a fat useless [****!!****] and Rod Moore couldn't run a bath - why not start supporting Canvey like I have, much better and we don't have to put up with crappy performances like this - and yes - I was at the game - but no more.......

Geoff King & Calder are in cahoots anyway.....and it's less than half an hour's drive to the island - see U there suckers...anybody still supporting Billericay after this year's events are plums, pure and simple.

A few thoughts.

1) On last nights game (I wasn't there so these are only opinions). I would suggest there isn't a team in the league that if you took i)Goalkeeper ii) 50% of the back 4(the most experienced 50% at that) and iii) 2 experienced strikers (including the leading scorer) out of the team wouldn't struggle. By all accounts the youngsters came in and did well. On some occasions (and this is one) the performance is more important than the result.

2) Unless you support the [****!!****] (or to a lesser extent this season) ManUre you have to accept that your team is going to lose a few games now and then. Tottenham (as an example) have lost almost as many games as they've managed to win (L10 W12). If you throw all your toys out of the pram every time your team loses then you'll see very few games in a season.

3) To the anonymous above - C*nv*y are welcome to you. I have nothing for contempt for people who jump ship when their team has a rough patch.

It's always disappointing when we lose! There are defeats anf there are defeats if you know what I mean - look at the Havant games - FA Cup defeat absolute disgrace, Trophy - we battled away superbly with 10 men for much of the game and extra time and the players could hold their heads up high at the end. We don't have the best team in the league but if the players go out and give 100% we can't ask for anything more from them.

And (I'm building up a head of steam here <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> )

if you think that was bad, look at Kingstonian! They lost 4-1 to boretree last night. We havn't conceded 4 goals against anybody this season! "high flying" st albans could "only" draw at Heybridge (sound familiar?)

As a Hitchin supporter it is interesting to read this string of messages!

To be fair, it was a poor game, but we are suffering with top players injured and a squad lacking in depth, but with a number of youngsters who have come through the youth teams being given an opportunity to play in the first team.

With the number of our recent games where the ball has come out off the woodwork, we really were due at least one where the ball went in instead!!

As for Master Fay having a good game, I would have to say he had almost nothing to do in the whole game - stopping one low cross in the first half (from behind the goal it didn't look as if he was near the one that came back off the bar)and spilling another in the second. Most of our shots were high, wide and not very handsome! Good luck to him for the future though.

Our sub keeper, I believe, is equally young and it must be quite daunting for them to be thrown in at Ryman level.

Good luck for the rest of your season and I hope we can hang on to be able to face you at Top Field again next season (not forgetting the return match at the end of this month).
