Tonights Scores 6/11

Excellent result tonight and a really spirited performance especially after Gab was rather harshly sent off.

For me Johnny Stuart was outstanding, winning every tackle and header and making a crucial goalline tackle.

Westy had another good game and Ricky in the second half made some quality saves and catches.

Dan Francis won man of the match and really caught the eye especially in the second half with his pace and dribbling.

Front two worked hard again. Don't think Danny Curran knew too much about his goal and wished he had just blasted that effort near the end instead of trying to chip the keeper but both he and Ruggy linked up very well.

Maldon I thought were dissapointing. Purser and Berquez looked a shadow of the players they once was.

An excellent result and the Yellow Army were superb once again.

Well done everyone. smile

Hmm! I know it is a game of opinions but nobody within 100 yards of me thought the right man got MOTM, the shout from behind the goal was for Ricky!

The goal was very clearly chested in from 2 yards after the keeper saved.

Maldon played some lovely passing, entertaining football, this suited our style and made a nice change from some of the up in the air crap we have been seeing in this league.

Some of their one touch stuff was lovely and they tried to play football instead of beat us up, they played some nice short passing fotball, their finishing let them down, as obviously have your eyes.

I must admit though in common with saturday the yellow army added something at least we can agree on that bit!

Absolutely delighted with the win tonight yay

To be honest, after the Heybridge game I looked at Brentwood and Maldon as games that I would not have been surprised to lose. However, the side has developed a real backbone since then, and has turned us into a hard side to beat on the last two outings.

Again, loads of players could have been given MOTM. I wouldn't argue with Danny Francis as he played very well, though personally I thought Jon Stuart was outstanding.

A special mention to Ryan Edgar as well. Wasn't due to start, but after Clydie did his hamstring about 5 mins before kick off, Ryan stepped in and put in a mammoth performance in midfield.

As for B**quez hanged, he was dreadful laugh . I told him that I thought he was our best player when he walked in the clubhouse. He laughed as if it I was joking. I was not!

Overall, bearing in mind the money Maldon are throwing at it this year, I am very proud at the commitment and desire the players showed to win the match. Two weeks ago I think we would have lost that match after Crow's missed pen.

Finally, the Yellow Army were superb once again, let's keep producing the noise and being that 12th (or 11th smile ) man.

COME ON YOU YELLOWS!!!

Very impressed with the performance and I agree that this side is showing loads of spirit. Berquez, was he playing? Didn't notice him.

Shame about the penalty miss. Had we taken an early lead we might have gone on to score even more. Still, just one of those things.

Can't agree with MOTM. Sure there was some clever dribbling but what did he do with it then? John Stuart got my award.

I know we can't keep going on about the refereeing at this level but the lack of consistency is something of a worry. How can a defender not be sent off when he pulls an attacker to the floor, just as that attacker has a superb goal scoring opportunity. Obviously this referee thinks that there is a degree of interpretation of the laws. So where was that sympathetic interpretation when Gab was sent off. Technically the ref was right, but either he sticks to his rule book or he uses discretion; he has to do one or the other and not mix and match. We also had the situation where the Maldon defender booted the ball away. Reaction from the ref? Never mind, lets get the game restarted!

Yellow Army was superb again. Well done all of you. What a shame we can't persuade more punters to come through the turnstile, but I guess we've been here many times before. No easy answer.

was a good game of football last night. dissappointed with the size of the crowd thought there would be more like 400. maldon not reaching their potential at moment and i think when they click they will go on a big run. dissappointed with the 2 top boys last night (berco and purse) but think if they both stick with it their form will come and they will tear up the league. having said that ive been saying that since the season opener.

Well, I don't think Ollie will be there for much longer.

As for the crowd, I was hoping for the 250 mark on a Tuesday night with no away fans. Hopefully, we can do well against Wakering & Enfield Town and some people might decide to come back down to Park Lane.

Wouldn't say that Dan Francis was my choicce of MOTM. Would have given it to Jon Stuart but Francis did play well and is really settling into the side.

Agree that it was refreshing to see Maldon play the ball on the floor and they did play some good football at times. Expected a little bit more from them though.

First time post - but had to comment that Leon ran 10x as much as Danny Francis last night. Why is he always left to run whole right side from defence up to attack. I don't know how he keeps running.

Got to say that last night we looked a little uncoordinated. I can very rarely hear team conversation going on . I think some communication from Ricky to his defenders may help alleviate some 'close' moments, and also from our Captain ?

Other than that another 3 points gratefully accepted.

Leon`s workrate is fantastic and is very important to the team, i`m sure he`d rather be playing up front but he gives his all every game.

As mentioned earlier in this thread Edgar played well,he got in some important tackles and when he had the ball just played it simple where a few others were guilty of trying to make almost impossible passes and gave the ball away too easily. He also sat deeper which allowed Fanibuyan to attack more.

Seen a lot worse refs than last nights, didn`t agree with Fanibuyan`s first booking but he didn`t give him a lot of options when he stopped Maldon taking their free-kick. The penalty was clear-cut but i think a straight red would have been harsh, the defender got booked we got the penalty but we didn`t take advantage.

Motm could have gone to a few different players and i`ve no complaints with Francis getting the award i just wish he would shoot more.

Got to agree with comment about how quiet the team is and i do think it goes against us in the 50-50 decisions, how many times have we seen the ref or the assistants award the decision to the player who appeals loudest.

One of our situations that eventually need addressing is that our over thirties group cannot cope (well) with two games a week

We have now seen many of the younger players step up to the plate in the past couple of games but to keep the tempo going we really could do with at least one or maybe two of our over 30s returning to allow each of them to have an occasional break, old injuries/surgeries take their toll playing twice and maybe training once in a week

There has been a most refreshing dropping of the penny with many of our young players who not only have come to terms with the physical demands but have continued playing educated football in with the physical determination.

There will of course be set backs but the future looks bright looks CIFC.

Thought we deserved the win and as been said it was interesting to see Maldon come with a different style. It was frightening though to see how much space Berquez had on the left hand side. A better player could've utilised that freedom much easier. Makes me wonder why our wide men don't try it sometimes, to split the middle where Fanny, Edgar, etc can work their stuff.

I cannot see how the Referee couldn't send off the Defender for the penalty, it was a clear goalscoring oppertunity in the penatly area. Is it a case of the game is only in the first half, so the Referee doesn't want to give a disadvantage?

Man of the Match was laughable, Jon Stuart thoroughly deserved it for winning everything in the air and still getting stuck in on the floor. Dan Francis' running and dribbling was anonymous for the last twenty minutes, when we needed it most, going for the second goal at our most crucial stage of the game.

Agree with Goalhanger too, that Leon does tons during the game, going forward he is quality and it seems that he is also tracking back to support Crow. Partly the left-hand side doesn't need to do this because Bourne has pace, but partly because of communication issues. I think maybe having Stuart at left-back and Bourney on the wing, will give us more balance.

Fanibuyan has really impressed me the last couple of games. Before he didn't seem to add anything extra to the team, but in recent weeks I think moving from the Defensive to Attacking Midfielder has made him shine.

On the communication front, it's really noticable amongst our Strikers, no matter which two up front it is, there always seems to be a problem. They either both move for the same ball or they're not covering both sides of the goal and the deeper crosses are being wasted by no-one coming round the back and I suppose the wingers could get in on that action too.

Mention also has to go to Chris Bourne for his goal-line clearance at the death as well. Quality reflexes!

Brian Lloyd at Pitch Side

Canvey Island F.C 1 v Maldon Town 0 Tuesday 6th November

Maldon fielding the same team as Saturday and facing their former goal scoring hero Nicky Rugg for this Essex local derby.

Both teams started well with some good end to end football being played which for the most was played in midfield, after 20 minutes Canvey were awarded a penalty when Ollie Blackwell was adjudged to have brought down Danny Curran, but Captain Craig Davidson blasted the ball wide, shortly after this Maldon’s, Craig Emery was put through only to see his shot go across an empty goalmouth and for the rest of the half the although good football was played it did not produce much goalmouth action.

Maldon got an early wakeup call straight from the kick off in the second half when Liam Gordon went on a run across the goal and had his shot palmed away by Darren Gould in the Maldon goal only to see his save fall to the feet of Danny Curran, whose shot from an acute angel hit the bottom of the goal post and away to safety, Canvey got the only goal of the game on 60 minutes when Maldon got caught out by a long throw which was send out to the lively Gordon on the right wing, whose cross was deflected to Nicky Rugg who bundled to ball over the line from close range. Canvey Island edged on by their very vocal supporters tried to continued to play some attacking football but were denied by the Maldon defence, and it was Maldon who put the pressure on Canvey and had the better of the second half and Canvey weren’t helped when Gabriel Fannibuyan was sent off for a second bookable offence, against a ten man Canvey, Maldon put everyone forward but with plenty of missed chances and some good defending, Maldon failed to get the Equaliser and gives Maldon Manager Russell Tanner a lot to think about before Saturdays home clash with Bury Town.

YELLOW SAID,

Purser and Berquez looked a shadow of the players they once was.

I hope you lot sang "There's only only 'ONE' Wayne Purser".

For some strange reason at Cambridge last year our fans sang that there were two!!

Im still the only one to score at Park Lane though"

Good result keep it going.

Wayno
