In a pulsating game between these local rivals, Ramsgate just got the better of Margate in a nine goal thriller. Ramsgate were boosted by the fact they could include 4 or 5 fringe first team players and this clearly showed in the opening minutes. In fact ex Margate player Dan Wisker had a free kick in a central position as early as the first minute and, although struck well, the ball sailed over the bar. Then in the 10th minute he had another chance when he met a cross from Carl Munday but again his shot flew over the bar. Chris Lewis then had a shot saved by another ex Margate man, Nathan Jevons and from the resulting corner the ball was cleared by him quickly, and eventually found Wisker, who tore through the middle of the Margate defence and hit an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net to put the Rams deservedly one up.

This seemed to wake up Margate and Aaron Quaine hit a free kick from the edge of penalty area but was well gathered by Jevons. In the 20th minute Alan Heath got a cross in but Ryan Harker hit his shot wide of the left post. Quaine then went on a run starting in his own half and pushed the ball through to 16 year old Joe Taylor but once again Jevons made a fine save. A minute later a free kick on the right by Quaine went straight into Jevons hands and from his upfield clearance found Munday whose shot was excellently saved by Rowlands who tipped it around the post. In the 26th Quaine again picked up the ball and found Lewis with a lovely pass who in turn found Taylor but his shot went over the bar.

Another ex Margate man, Karl Barron, went on a run on the right hand side and got to the byeline and put over a low cross to find another ex Margate man, Scott Holden but his shot was blocked well by Gary Emanuel. Then in the 34th minute a well taken corner by Wisker was met well by Laurence Ball, who powered a header into the net past the helpless Rowlands to put his side two up. However Margate did not lie down, and four minutes later Harker took a free kick on the left of the area and Jake Eastwood rose to head the ball into the net to give his side some hope. Just before half time Barron had a chance to increase the lead when he cut back inside the area but his shot only found the side netting.

Margate came out all guns blazing in the second half and a fine run by Olti Keci in the 50th minute found Lewis who found Taylor and his shot was blocked for a corner. Quaine swung in a dangerous corner and Ramsgate sub Led Lami could only turn it into his own net to level the scores. Dan Stokes then hit a through ball to Lewis but Jevons saved well at his feet. Ball then got a cross over and found Holden but his shot was hit wide of the post. Keci then went on another run and hit a great shot but it went just wide of the left post.

Then Margate took the lead in the 61st minute when a ball by Heath found Harker on the left who cut in and fired a great shot past Jevons. Margate then controlled play for a while with a Heath free kick being saved well by Jevons, then a ball by him finding Keci who fired wide and Taylor forcing Jevons into another save. Then Ramsgate broke away in the 78th minute and a cross was missed by everyone in the area and Wisker coming in on the far post headed it gleefully in to level the scores.

Wisker then had another shot tipped over by Rowlands. Then with both sides pressing for a winner mistakes happened. Ramsgate had a corner in the 83rd minute, and from it developed a goalmouth scramble,Barron managed to latch onto it at the far post and hit it into the net. Then Holden had a shot that seemed to be covered by Rowlands but the ball went through him to put the Rams 5-3 up in the 85th minute.

Margate came back and a corner by Ryan Harker was met by Eastwood who headed the ball down, of the inside of the post and into the net to make it 4-5. They then piled on the pressure and another corner by Harker was hit into the danger area but Jevons rose well to pluck the ball out of the air in front of the incoming Margate players.

Margate: Rowlands, Stokes,Harker, Emanuel, Eastwood, Keci, Summers, Heath, Taylor, Lewis, Quaine. Subs: Hoggart, Payne, Anderton, Brown, Van Hinsberg.

Ramsgate: Jevons, Ball, Powell, Axell, Moore, Tanner, Barron, Wisker, Holden, Munday, Brannan. Subs: Collis, Alliston, Lami, King, Martin.

I actually think Nathan did play well, made some good saves and distributed the ball well. Got a big gob on him too from what I heard, shouting instructions! wink

Good game for forwards both sets of defenders were woeful to say the least. Dan enjoyed taking £10 off mooro he bet him a fiver a goal lol Good 90 minutes of football for the fringe players and bear in mind Holden is a lot further down the line to recovery than he fought he would be after the opps in the summer so another good game for him. Reserve team football is all about giving fringe and recovering players match fitness so a job well done and an entertaining game.
