In the NLP today onome sodje states that york do passing skills every single day.He said, i was used to it being this way at charlton and that when i went gravesend i had to adapt to something different.Being here is like being back at charlton. Now whats this telling us.

You have a point, hopeful, but I still think that if we upped the attractive football but were in the bottom half like York, the fans would still stay away, only the excuse would be that we weren't picking up results.

Of course the ideal is good football and a top five place, but remember who we are, our core support and the fact that 23 other clubs are trying to do the exact same thing.

I didn't read the article properly, but I took the adapting comment to be more with Billy McEwan encouraging him, like they did at Charlton.

When playing at home its us who have to take the game to the opposition, plenty of pressure, use width of the pitch, get the ball in the box and lots of shots at goal. This is what fans want to see, its called entertainment even if we lose a few they will come back again.Away results count for nothing if we cant do it at home.

But surely the club would rather play dour football and win than play Kevin Keegan football and alternate winning and losing 5-4? Entertainment is not a priority for any football club but success is. If we were playing the Arsenal game doubtless we would be conceding more goals and therfore getting fewer points. I for one will be happier with a top ten finish based on grinding out results than 15th place based on show-pony antics.

It depends on whether Fllet are in the sports business to make money, or in the entertainment business, making money that way.

I think it's a bit of both.

Certainly entertainment should be high on the agenda, which, as the 5-4 result proved, at least gives a feelgood factor to the club, whilst dour play brings out the worst in people (and keeps fans away).

But hopeful, as you said on another thread, "Some people come on this forum like they think they own it.Why give abuse just because somebody gives their opinion"

...so surely Bernard can come on here and ask what he likes...? wink

I will not abuse bernard or anyone else for having an opinion, what im saying is its no use telling everybody in gravesend that they should come and watch the fleet,as the football we serve up is not entertaining.Im sorry but thats how it is at the moment.

But you don't have to win 5:4 to be entertaining. Last years Oxford match may only have been 1:0 but it was a very satisfying win and hugely entertaining.

This years Stevenage match we lost 1:0 the football Stevenage played was worth watching and although I don't like seeing us lose I do enjoy watching a good team.

I think we need to win our home games, if that can be done playing attractive football all the better but the first priority should be to win. As someone rightly said earlier on away matches don't matter.

Of course where the argument falls over is the hoofball we sometimes play at the moment is not only unattractive but also unproductive so we lose all ways. frown

Hoofball is unatractive, but if you have the players, it can be productive, you should play to your strengths.

Norwich(bottom of the table) today,2-0 down to Ipswich(4th),playing good football, had to substiute Dublin(injured), with John(The Blimp)Hartson. As soon as he came on, the ball was hoofed up the field to him, and Jamie Cureton fed off the knock downs. Result, 2-2, ask the Norwich fans, if they enjoyed the game, or not?

Just to stick my oar in ( again), I would take a sh*tty 1-0 win anyday ( especially yesterday !).

It's nice to play attractive football....and win.....but very few teams are able to do it ( in my opinion ! ) consistantly.

As my old mate Big Ron used to say.......I like my teams to play like I like to watch a game....but I don't mean an amusement arcade where you play nice football and teams enjoy playing you cos they beat you....

So, the moral of the piece is that if you have the players, or more importantly the money...then do it ! If not then just win !!

Cheers,

hoofball and route one are not the same, the fleet play hoofball, which is kick it as hard and high as you can and hope someone of your team is near it.route one which was played so very effectively by wimbledon (ask alan kimble)was to find the big man up front who would hold the ball then pass to fellow team mates who by then had found good positions to score.

....well, now that nice Mr Warnock is in charge, you won't have so far to travel as no doubt he will soon have them playing "hoofball" ....in fact you may not need to leave the house at all....you will probably be able to see the ball flying about from your bedroom window !

Cheers,
