Leamington match comments

Leamington are a good side and the draw was no disgrace. They defended their lead well, and Gate didn’t look much like equalising until the home side started to tire halfway through the second half.

We played the long ball, with Rob trying to flick the ball on to Pinns, who nearly always found himself surrounded by defenders. Our opponents relied on speed and passing.

Margate’s MOM in my opinion would be between Saunders, the classiest player on the pitch and good captaincy, and SCS who kept us in it with a penalty save and other heroics in the second half. I don’t think he could have prevented the goal, as the player hit it right into the corner from 20 and could have chosen either side of the goal. On balance I think SCS will get my vote.

Leam had a very good midfielder Herlihy.

Player ratings:

SCS 8

Peters 7, Smith 6, Young 6, Skinner 6

Side 6, Standen 7, Saunders 8, Jackson 7

Haworth 7, Pinnock 7 (I liked the way he tried to turn defenders instead of running back towards his own goal like he does sometimes).

The ground is small, out in the wilds, but very nice. There were plenty of stewards, the PA was good, and the whole thing seemed nicely organised.

A Truly awful game throughout, first time i'd seen Margate since the Grays friendly in the summer. We seemed quite promising then, but I saw nothing today that displayed a team who may be going places, SCS was dodgy in the air, although made a few good one on one stops. Skinner played too many long balls, Standen just seemed to want to hurt people and not actually play. The only people playing with any real passion, or skill for that matter were Pinnock and Jackson.

There is no way we deserved anything from the game, and i actually felt a bit sorry for Leamington, who dominated us. When we scored, I could only laugh, another game that will go down as a plus for Trott in the eyes of the board, but when will these issues within the team be properly addressed? Probably when we appoint a proper manager.

Leamington let us off the hook. They are a good side and would easily be in the top half of our league IMO. In fact, if you discount a county cup tie against some team called Studley, they had kept seven consecutive clean sheets at home before today.

However, their failing is not scoring enough goals and that showed today. From the angle I saw their goal I was disappointed that Scott didn't seem to move. Leamington always looked more likely to score in the first half and missed an absolute sitter of a header.

We managed to have a bit more possession after the break but Leamington looked more dangerous. Charley made a rather foolish challenge to give them a penalty with about 20 minutes left but Scott kept us in the tie. Rob really should have done better with a header at the far post that their keeper saved - however, at least it was an effort on target. Louis then seemed to let a through ball go under his feet and their guy had a one-on-one with Scott, but he pulled off a good save.

Then we got our pen...and I really don't know what it was for. Maybe the ref (N. Radford of Worcester) was trying to even things up. The man in black's performance was erratic throughout the afternoon. Pinno made no mistake from the spot. That seemed to leave Leamington deflated and maybe we could have nicked it in the last few minutes, but that would have been grossly unfair.

A few words on Leamington, the club. They certainly believe in giving value for money - good programme for £1, admission was only £6 and there is a free bus service for fans to and from the town centre. Good-natured people and I think they will make progress up the leagues over the next few years. Just a shame the ground is in the middle of nowhere!

I would just like to comment on the friendly reception we personally received at Leamington this afternoon from the people in the village up the road where we had lunch to the supporters, officials and staff at the various food and drink outlets. A real friendly welcome, chatted to several of them before, during and after the game. Could not fault them at all. So give their supporters our usual good friendly welcome on Tuesday. Have a good trip down folks, it's a long way to come on a dark November night.

Be sure to make yourself known to us if you do come along.

The ball is now back in your court, with up to 120 minutes on your own patch.

How many of our players will be able to make it down given the travelling time and ridiculous FA rule about midweek Trophy replays is uncertain, but it will be another corking game - shame one team has to lose, really.

Bloody hell-you can't say that on here. Santimonious old cretins who can only see blinkered positives will pillory you for it despite the fact that more often than not we play dross.
