That's up to you whether you feel included, and no, I didn't specifically think of you.

And no, as I said, poor entertainment can be a symptom, but it is the falling gates that are the main problem.

LD hopefully can address things on the field by bringing in new blood as he has recently said. But nothing the club has tried of late had halted the slide in gates - down 15%.

I know other clubs are also affected, but I am not interested in them, only Fleet.

I can think of no finer matches than when Portway and Cotter were in their prime.

Brilliant flowing, goalscoring football. Virtually guaranteed goals a plenty every game.

I know we all think our club is unique, but it isn't. You can go on several other clubs forums, and find the same thing being discussed. Low attendances are not unique to the Fleet, they are widespread in all Non-League Football. The same old reasons/excuses, are being trotted out, and the same bickering going on, and no definitive answer found.

The ups and downs of the club have been many over the years, and steeper than Stonebridge Road Hill, and Galley Hill combined.

Unless you are going to get Troops to round up everyone in Gravesend, and frogmarch them down to the ground, every week, you will just have to accept not seeing the ground full!

I wouldn't disagree with you on that score Gary but just to enlighten the younger fans like Bernard why don't you tell him how many more people flooded through the gates every week when our greatest ever finisher was banging them in.

And while I wish I was, it's been a few years since I've been under 25 too. I remember the likes of Ruislip away on a cold Tuesday, so I know how I define a 'rut'!

I'd like to point out that, young though I was, I do remember the Portway/Cotter days and indeed some of the days before then. I have to say I can't recall too much sparkling football before Portway's arrival, nor indeed in the period between his departure and the last two Ryman seasons. However, enlightenment from CG is, of course, always welcome wink

Please, DA11, don't suggest I was trying to 'outsupport' CG. I was merely replying to him when he made the sweeping generalisation that most of us on one side of the argument were under 25. When most of us are anything but and remember the 'old days' as well as him.

Wasn't aimed at you Stu. Just has me in stitches on here. It was a generalisation. When the going gets tough the odd steve brown is chucked in or portway for good measure.

What can we do as fans, we do what we can such as bringing friends and family down, dish out posters to the pubs and clubs etc etc etc. But if no one is interested then they won't go. We cannot make people go, only try to encourage.

When I was in school last year, I was asking lots of mates to come to watch a game and most of the reasons I got were that "Oh...Gravesend are [****!!****]" or "Nah...can't be f*cked". I think it's a shame that we have people who support the northern Premier league teams, Man Utd and Liverpool etc, and they've never even set foot in any of those places.

Slightly off point, people say they support Man Utd because they are good. So if they're good, why do they need support?

Also, I wonder what Chatham Gazza would do if he was our chairman. Maybe he should set up his own football club and see how easy it is. grin

Hirsty, you watch and support your local team, as well as Sheffield Wednesday, so that's okay. I give credit to those who watch and see their local side, no matter how many times they see them. What p155es me off is when people say "Ebbsfleet are [****!!****]" and they haven't even watched them play a game.

The language the teachers use today is disgusting..

With reference to the posters. They just promote the match. To the potential fan base they see the posters and say "So What". It means nothing to them. Just like the dartford posters mean nothing to me.We need to get the floaters back but we need to offer something to get them back or in. Most young men have probably pledged their alliance to a club by the time they are 16. We can't make them change their mind. Thats who they support full stop. What we need is a way to attract more parents with younger children. Watching your first live football match is like your first love. I know we do kids for a quid but we need to shout it from the roof tops, take it to town do door to door flyers. Whatever it takes.

Just like me, my dad took me to my first match, vs Leigh RMI, first year in the Conference, we lost 2-1, but it got me started.

Trouble is also, people cannot go because they have other commitments, such as work and the Mrs not letting their guy go to the football etc. (not that I have any trouble in that department grin)

What else can we do?
