Friday night kick off?

Yeah me again, can you tell I'm not at work today??!!

Right another question for you all:

Would it be worth experimenting with a Friday evening (7.45pm) kick off?

Do you think we would get a bigger attendance? Or do you think it wouldn't work and why? I see Didcot Town tried it (v Andover) and got a crowd of 347, which was way above their average at the time (258) and I doubt Andover brought many with them.

Be interested to hear your views on this subject and any other attendance boosting ideas you may have.

As a Diddy fan its worked well both times we've tried it. Back in our Hellenic days we got 250 for Pewsey Vale (who brought 4 fans) and against Andover we got 350is which was probably 120 more than if we'd played it Saturday.

The main sticking point seems to be your prospective opponents. They may think there's an ulterior motive for asking to switch (ie they think your team is out on a stag do or something) or their players can't make it on a Friday due to work/social commitments.

Works best for a lacal derby I guess.

Anyway its definitely a good idea if your opponents agree to it.

That's true Matt, a Sunday kick off could be an option too, it may even work better that a Friday evening. Either way I think it's something that should be explored, I really can't see the crowd being any lower than it would be on a Saturday. But if we do try it and it doesn't work I'll be out of the country!

A Sunday afternoon kick off may work well, although would need to be planned, i.e make sure teams like Chelsea, Reading, and the like are playing on the Sat or aren't on the TV. Because after all it is these people that will help boost the numbers.

It may be a good idea, as it may get some people coming when their team aren't playing at home (This is my situation as a Manchester United season ticket holder) Maybe even have a game where you offer half price entry to anyone with a match ticket for another club from Sat?

From a personal point of view playing on a Friday or Sunday would be terrible, especially as the bus service on a Sunday is useless!

Agree with what was said above, Saturday is the day for football, I'm not sure that trying to change it would work.

Very true and I agree that saturday is the day of football, and should stay that way, the amount of saturday 3pm games United have is non-existant pretty much (which has its upsides, I've been able to see Slough a hell of a lot this season)

But a strategically planned game on a different day may get a few extra people watching Slough when they can (i.e when their team is away)

I'm for Saturdays. It is an integeral part of my weekend. The pre-match pint or two constitutes hair of the dog from a Friday night and then the half time and post game beverages are to send me on the way for the evening. Perfick.

I could well be something to look at when midweek games are schedulued at the same time as Champions League games, I'm sure that would bring a fair few people more along.

Surely this isn't liable to happen anyway due to league requirements?

Tom, Didcot have already played on a Friday evening this season, and they got a much bigger attendance then their average. As long as the two clubs agree I doubt the league would have a problem with it. Thinking about my original question, I'm thinking if we were to switch a Saturday game to another day as an experiment, I think Sunday would be the better day now. Especially if it was scheduled for say 2pm and there was a big match on Sky (and if they had a big screen showing Sky at Beaconsfield would help!!!) right after the game. Although saying that we don't get any bar takings so maybe that's not a good idea!

I just think it's something worth discussing, it may even bring in some much needed extra revenue. If it could be planned correctly (i.e. on a Sunday when there are no 'big' matches on TV and no other local clubs are playing at home), was marketed properly (on radio, local papers, posters etc...) plus offer some special tickets promotion (kids for a quid, family tickets or season ticket holders of other clubs get in for £5) then it could be a winner.
