hmm, its annoying really because we tell kids not to "take sweets from strangers" but what do they do on halloween.... knock on doors of peoples houses they dont know....

I heard on the radio this morning of someone who had given a child some sweets,only to have the mother of the child come back 5 mins later to complain that they contained nuts and he shouldn't be given them out.

I always thought the idea was for parents to go with the kids and only go to houses of people they knew. Times certainly have changed. Now, kids go by themselves and hit every house they can.

Actually...............Halloween, and Trick or Treating, started in Celtic Ireland...............Not the United States!

I agree with Cantos. Certainly in modern times it's an Americam thing, we never heard of it in my day. Power and influence of TV and all that. In fact in a masterly exhibition of Grumpy Old Man-ism, though I say so myself, a few years ago I put a sign in the front door saying "No trick or treats" superimposed on a Union Flag. I'm mopre mellow now though.

 

Remarkably though we only got bothered once last night. Invisible-Lass is much nicer than me and insists on giving the little devils sweets.

When me and 'Er Indoors were making our way up to the local watering hole yesterday evening, we actually witnessed a group of young teenage girls trick-or-treating in the full St Trinians garb. Stockings and suspenders, the lot.

 

I ask you. I disaster just waiting to happen.
