The lads beat Deal Town 3-1 tonight to progress to a1st round home tie with Northampton.

From the start, we were clearly the bigger, stronger, more controlled side and Deal looked a bit overawed by the occasion.

We were 2 up by half time and looking totally comfortable - too much so at times and we should have been more than 2 up even at that stage.

The 2nd half started as the 1st ended and we had 2 off the line in the 1st 90 seconds.

Thereafter we had more wasted chances and started to get a bit sloppy and were made to pay when a defender shepherding the ball back to the keeper fell over the keeper and left the Deal forward an empty net to roll the ball into.

It was a bit nervy after that although Deal didnt get any other obvious chances and we eventually made the game safe in injury time, with a good individual goal by the sub, Ryan Cole

The Deal keeper had a stormer of a game - several excellent stops & 1 in particular when a header came back off the bar leaving him on the ground, but he somehow recovered to claw the second header round the post. It was that combined with some poor finishing that kept the score down.

I thought Cole looked decent when he came on and the other 2 scorers Appiah and Callander both worked hard around the top of the box.Nick Nowotney also got better as the game went on. Theres definitely promise in the team and it will be interesting to see how they do against a league team in a couple of weeks time.

One other point - how refreshing to see not one decision contested by the players - no arguments or complaints from either team. And equally refreshing to hear the referee clearly explaining almost every decision to the players throughout the game - theres many a Senior Team & Senior Referee that could take note of this!!

What a great result for the U19s, Excellent in the first half and a bit nervous in the second.

And what a boost for them having Liam , AK and with many of the Fleet directors in the stand ,not forgetting the Fleet faithfull, Scott the Drum,(please bring it next time)Ian D,Kane and Kenny. Lets hope you can all make it next week .
