Part time players

Recommended Posts

I know that LD simply will not tolerate part-timers, even legends, as they are unable to train when he wants them (despite one legend training almost full time anyway), but I found this interesting to say the least.

Perhaps there is more to Burton Albion's Nigel Clough than we thought.

Like a manager who appreciates the benefits that a legend can bring to a club.

I am not saying that we should re-sign JJ, clearly he is happy and settled at Margit, but perhaps a greater amount of management flexibility and less intransigence could have kept him (and a couple of others)for a little longer.

Of course, unless our gates pick up,could we be staring at a return to P/T ourselves in the not too distant future?

Why, Harry?

My point is that it wouldn't be a disaster if we required to recruit part-timers as well to save money (which could happen if gates keep falling).

Our similarity with Burton is quite close - both promoted the same year, were both part time, both went f/t about the same time, both had about the same gates in those days. Both had tatty old stadiums.

There the similarity ends.

Or, like a manager who knows when to say 'good-bye' at the right time?
What would be the point of keeping on part-time players? They would never get picked over full-time professionals, so they would have to settle for playing a very small role as bit-part players for us - or playing a major part for a part-time team.

We keep discussing whether forwards from lower leagues would be able to cut it at Conference level. What makes us think that JJ could?? Just because he was and I repeat was a Fleet legend doesn't mean he could just come back and do a job again.

Whilst we are on the subject of past legends any chance of getting Tony Weston back whilst Macca is out. He was a solid defender and part time.
