Grieves

Recommended Posts

Today @ Brentwood was the first time I saw Grieves play, and if that is what the management think is a big forward player, god help us. If that is all he has to offer it is not good enough, if it was a bad day at the office, well we all have them, and lets hope if he plays again we see a better performance.

I am sure a lot of people there today had memories of the ESL match when we drew 5 - 5, on today's showing this guy wouldnt even get in the reserves of an ESL team.

he needs to improve or move on.

From what I have seen I think the comments are a little harsh, although I do see why you said them.

Today was poor and Grieves was poor.

However, the guy can win almost every header he goes for, BUT other players need to anticipate his work and make runs.

Today, nobody bothered.

The tactics of Grieves up front alone did not and WILL NOT work.

Don't blame the player............blame the tactics and blame the Manager.

I think he is worth his place IF we play to his strengths, as OT says yesterdays formation of him up front on his own is pointless, watching him trying to chase the ball down the channels was painful.

Play him up front with another forward to feed off him, its not exactly rocket science is it!

Along with ST i too saw Grieves for the 1st time and echo what was said. He did not look fit to play football and he struggled to run 5 yards without having to stop for breath, i would say though that he did win almost everything in the air but unfortunatly he was winning and flicking them on to whom??? Ricci was taken off and Bryan was playing more of a link between midfield and Grieves.

If he was bought in to be the 'target man' upfront surley he needs someone to flick onto i.e crouch & Owen.

If its a target man management want my mate is 6'7 and he can run but cant really kick a ball but i'm sure he'll win headers without even jumping.

Totally agree, Grieves can definitely do a job for us. He was brought in specifically to give us some arial presence.
It's not rocket science, if you have a big guy playing upfront that wins practically everything in the air, players need to make runs off of him and support him, none of this was done yesterday!! Firstly, the tactics imposed in the 2nd half were very negative, and Grieves on his own up top was baffling?? But saying this, none of the midfield made an effort to get the other side of him, so he had a thankless task!!

FUNNY, DON'T YOU THINK.

We supporters, who only pay to watch, all seem to have a very similar view about OUR team, the tactics they play, the Players used and the Management.

Even though we nearly all agree ( just read the threads ) the Management consistantly do things that none of us would do !

Must be us getting it wrong week in, week out, eh ?

Slowly, very slowly, the supporters will stop bothering to comment............... and also going to games.

We can't all be wrong ......can we ?

Old Towner after reading Mini Smith's comments I thought exactly the same thing, its quite clear even speaking at games that how many supporters think the same thing, we merely say what we see, for example two people said yesterday how many players have played at left back or left side of a three this season?

It is all very bizarre!

Obviously I'm commenting without having seen the player, or the tactics concerned, at first hand, but I'd be a little worried if our idea of progress is to devise tactics of hitting long balls to a big strong target man...... I don't even see that in the West Yorkshire County Amatuer League Premier Division (Step 12 I believe). I hoped that was left to the ESL.

I can understand why they thought that from Saturday's display. To be honest I was thinking the same about them - pretty much sums up the game.

I can pretty much describe what Brentwood had to offer in one sentence:

Long ball to Carlos sleep and a bunch of alcoholic chavs in the stands!!

To be fair, it worked well on one occassion and got them the goal, but apart from being a reasonably sound defensive unit, the Number 8 (big guy in centre-mid) and Carlos were the only players that were of any cop!!
