Err... where did we go in the 2nd half?

 

Hammatt went back into a midfield five, in front of a back four leaving Grieves up front on his own, did anyone else cross the halfway line? the lad is not blessed with pace & although he won everything that was wacked up to him who was there to get on the end of it?

 

Ricci Crace was a man on a mission from the start..... to have an early bath! He got away with three reckless challenges before going in the book, this seemed to then spread to Hammatt & Jones, although I thought Campbell was unlucky to get carded.

 

Rudi did well for Crace's goal & Bastian was unlucky with his header off the post.

 

We really do lack pace though which is why I think we packed the midfield, plus side is a back four looked a lot more solid than playing a three like last week......Err how many times has that been said?

I am sure that when we read Jim's after match notes, he will say that we did well and earned a good point !

 

Well, that is not how I saw it.

In the first half Town played reasonable football and but for the 44th min slackness, could have gone in 2 - 0 up at the break.

The goal showed once more that there is a terrible lack of pace in any back line Jim puts out.

 

As for the second half, Town's tactics were crap, playing Greieves up front on his own with not one player making runs to try and get on the end of his headers.

 

Overall, another poor performance.

 

Town will go nowhere this season until either Jim goes...

... he brings in a couple of good quality defenders.

 

Rudi is being made to play oh so deep that he will soon be the shortest centre back in the league !!

If we play with three slow centre halves we cannot play such a high line.

 

Rudi is only curently worth a place for his dead ball expertise.His current form does not warrant a start.Jonesy has lost focus and form recently.Surprised that Harvey started.Not sure Bastian has much to offer apart from committment,effort and bluster (ditto Tickner at the moment).Hammett cannot string two good perfomances together.For every Waltham Abbey,there is a Wingate & Finchley with Bryan.Although i feel this is mostly down to the respective quality of the individaul defensives that Bryan is matched against.Against teams that contain unathletic defenders who don't get tight (ex..Wabbey),he plays very well and can express himself.Against fast,pressurising defenders he can be ineffective.Crace is a talented goalscorer but needs to sort his attitude out and can also struggle along with Bryan when pitted against the better defences.

 

If we're going to play wing-backs we need to get someone like Woodward on the left (with Campbell on the right).Otherwise I would go for Nay,Gant,Allen,Bastian in a flat back four .

Having just checked the Table a 1-1 result away looks pretty good against an undefeated team who have only concede 7 goals in 8 games.

1st half fairly good, some nice passing and we looked to be closing down and pressing the ball..at times a bit to over the top. Was unlucky with the header off the post which lead to ricci's dissallowed goal.

2nd half baring Rudi's free kick that just went past the post i can't recall a shot at goal. We seemed to settle for the point from 46mins.

Hasler deserves a lot of praise, he had a very good game!!

I thought that Harvey and Bastian down the left both did well, Harvey's performance in particular was pleasing. Gant and Stephens did nothing wrong I thought, whilst Tickner's pace for me is far too easily exposed. Sorry but he is the weak link!! He needs to compensate for this and position himself a lot better, not getting so tight or as high up the field.

 

Centre-mid was non-existent yesterday. Neither of them could put their foot on the ball or pick a pass. Well done again JC and Co. for only giving Stevie.V 10 minutes at the end when we were sitting back and he would have little effect. What did he ever do wrong? AJ can do nought wrong however. If I was you Steve I would take a leaf out of Dean's book. We seem more interested in kicking the oppo off the park at present that playing the football that I know we can play!!

Whole game was dire, they were poor and so were we!! Not sure how some people are suggesting that the 1st half was ok??? Must have been at another ground. Scrappy is the nicest thing I could say about it. Can remember only 2 or 3 times in the game where we strung together some passes and put some football together. Mainly down the left - Bastian was very unlucky with his header.

 

Ps. Ref was very poor and added to the frustrating proceedings - was far too inconsistent. He should have booked Crace etc far earlier and put a stop to all the nonsense we paid £7 to watch.
