I agree that we deserved to win and did enough to warrant a comfortable three points. I'm just relieved Barney saved the pen because confidence would have been at an all time low and I'm not sure we would have had enough to come back.

Agree with Martin if the penalty had gone in it could have been a different game.

 

Wilkos half time talk seemed to get the team performing as a team rather than individuals and had the desired result with a very good second half performance with Landy making some good runs into their box.

Nobody said anything about 6-0 but they have, on average, been conceding four every game. On that basis, I didn't expect us to get outplayed for the first half an hour.

Saw the Fleet game - they were poor 1-4 against a team without a keeper - players not turning up/working, only two subs & a few kids thrown in at the deepend.Yesterdays side should give Fleet a proper game, we shall see

yes true they are averaging 3-4 goals against per match but what is also true of them is that for the first half an hour of every game they play they really attack and play at their best.

Important result yes, but it's one thing to beat Newport and Bracknell and quite another to do it against the better teams in this league. I recall that Bracknell had similar issues to us in their team selection, and when we played them they were already on their fourth goalkeeper of the season. As we saw yesterday, Newport are a very poor, inexperienced side who will struggle all season long. I dread to think what the atmosphere would have been like had we lost yesterday, and as others have said, it was looking a possibility in the early part of the first half.

 

As I said above, there's still an awful lot of work to do to put things right. It's not about 'moaning', it's the truth. We need to put a run together, and only time will tell if the players and management are capable of this and give us something to cheer.

We should have won more comfortably, the first 20 mins were not particularly good, but thereafter and in the second half we began to look more like a team than I've seen all season.

 

OK the oppo weren't very good, but at least we played with shape and purpose, especially along the flanks. Landy Salaka got better as the game wore on and provided the outlet we haven't had all season, scoring one and laying on the other.

 

A special mention to Adrian Browne, who won every challenge. How long has this guy been waiting for an extended run in the side at centre back?

 

I'm not getting carried away, we've still masses to do be competitive. It's surely within our capabilities to defend to pick up points home or away.
