Barnard saved a penalty in the second minute after Browne was adjudged to have fouled a Newport player and both sides have missed a sitter in front of goal.

Landy Salaka opened the scoring right before half time with a headed goal.

Half Time: Slough Town 1-0 Newport IOW

Job done. I thought Chris Robinson had an excellent game on debut slotting in on the right side and Landy showed that appearances can be deceptive with a great leap for the first goal and good mobility and ball control to lay on the goal for Charles.

We did what we needed to do. Landy Salaka looks very useful indeed, he's a real handful up front and was certainly my MOTM.

We still have a lot of work to do though - no point in us winning today then going on to lose the next 4 or 5.

It was a decent performance but I fear for Newport who demonstrated why they are bottom today. Having said that, we still had Barnard to thank for saving that penalty or it might have been different!

Thought we did what we needed to do. Robinson certainly had a good debut and also thought Salaka did very well.

The defence certainly looked more together and worked hard for each other. Daly also had a very good game at the back. Well done to Barney for saving the penalty and keeping a clean sheet.

thought it was a good performance, could have been 5 or 6,

credit to newport they came looking for a win and played some good attacking football and were a bit unlucky, wilko was amazing gave everything in this game showed real leadership, robinson was excellent, landy looked a tower of strength up front, just the sort of forward we need to be really physical up front.

well done rebels, Burnham will be interesting to say the least

A great result today and a good performance.

I thought it looked promising as soon as I saw the team; a bit more muscle. Barnard was excellent, as were DJ and Chris Robinson. Tom again looked an exciting prospect and Landy looks like he'll give us the extra strength we need up front. Difficult to say anyone had a bad game. Well done Wilko I reckon.

Now wouldn't it be nice to get something on Tuesday.

Good all round performance from the whole team today, some very good passing and good chances.

Robinson looked very comfortable down the right side throughout a very sold debut, Landy played very well upfront and Tom was trying very hard and troubled the keeper a bit too.

Wilko did very well to step up to take the corners, the first one which lead to the goal was very good, finally we had some height on the corners, which unfortunately DJ doesnt seem to have (but he did have a good game, shame he got injured).

Two decent goals, though you can't help but think that both teams could have had more!

Now let's look to Tuesday, we need a solid performance against a high flying team and maybe look to steal a point.

Decent result today. Match report emailed to you glen and Matt and will also be in the NLP so have a look at it. Impressed with the lads attitude and toil today with almost all giving 100% for the cause. I though Barnard had a blinder and throughly deserved his clean sheet. Robinson, Wilko, Salaka (and jeffreys before going off) also played really well.

Talk about rose tinted glasses! With a bit more luck and without Richard Barnard Newport would have been 3 or 4 up in the first 25 minutes. Not only did he save the penalty he stopped the rebound going in by pushing it onto the post. He also saved another certain one that was curling into the top corner shortly after.

Yes, we got the result but sorry to put a negative slant on it - we were outplayed in the first half by little more than a pub team who before today have conceded almost 4 goals every game.

I agree with Ian. First half I thought was shocking. Some of the basic errors were pathetic. Player were struggling to kick a ball with any power, and keep the ball in play and the passing was awful. Only player that stood out was DJ.

Second-half was much more of an improvement and much better to watch when the game opened up as we looked very danerous going forward with Robinson and Attrell putting in some decent crosses. Three important points, but we need to follow this up with a consitant set of result not just go back into losing mode.

Very quiet on here today, the boys done the job yesterday, well done. So obviously the moaners are stuffed.

Young Attrell & Robinson played well supplied a bit of ammo for the front men; will be interesting to see what they can do on tuesday against a better(?) side.

From the games so far I have,nt seen a team we are,nt capable of beating, and yes the standard is quite poor compared to last season.

its amazing that despite winning there is still a mode of negativity, ok newport are bottom and a team of young lads struggling in this division but why should we assume that they are going to be stuffed 6-0 every week they are playing with heart too,i just thought after this win it might give the players a bit of confidence going into the next couple of games which are difficult ones.

Be happy a win is a win!!!!!!

I think Ian and Chris have just made an honest assessment of the game. The first half was poor and we had to be thankful of Barney's brilliant saves to go in ahead.
