Sir Trevor Brooking on Saturday hosts The FA Cup draw for the First Round Proper. The draw gets underway at 5.10pm when ex-Chelsea and Manchester United players John Hollins and Paul Parker draw out the 80 balls, live from Soho Square.

The two special guests are an acknowledgement of last season’s inaugural Wembley Final and before the draw The FA will reveal a specially-commissioned painting of the official May opening. The unique triptych [three-part] piece was created by leading artist Nick Botting and the 5 by 12 ft panoramic picture now takes pride of place in The FA’s reception area.

FA Chief Executive Brian Barwick said: “I’m delighted with the painting which hangs for all visitors to see opposite The FA Cup trophy and alongside the Wembley Stadium maquette of Sir Bobby Moore. The FA wanted a special record of this particular moment in time and Nick has provided that in an original and vibrant way.”

Future FA Cup draws will reference classic Finals and The FA’s Director of Football will be joined on November 11 by Steve Hodge and Cyrille Regis. The pair will represent Tottenham Hotspur and Coventry City who played each other in the 1987 Final, twenty years on from the Sky Blues’ 3-2 victory.

Come December all eyes will be on Kevin Beattie and Sammy Nelson as the two ex-players conduct the famous Third Round Draw, potentially setting up giant-killing Premier League and Championship fixtures with lower league opposition. The former Ipswich Town and Arsenal players will recall The Blues’ 1-0 Cup Final victory over The Gunners, thirty years after the event.

Two-time FA Cup winner Brooking said: “I’m delighted to welcome fellow Cup Final veterans to The FA over the coming weeks so they can participate in one of England’s great sporting traditions, the famous FA Cup Draw.

“It is fitting that the 2007 Cup Final is recognised tomorrow with the special guests and new painting, it was an extremely proud day for the organisation and the country. And I’m sure John and Paul will also set up some fantastic First Round Proper matches!

“The FA Cup goes from strength to strength and never fails to throw up exciting fixtures and engrossing games. Last year was another great competition and viewers will get chance to watch the drama unfold with every draw.”
