Braintree's new Manager

..will be named this week according to the Braintree & Witham Times, they name Brian Stahtam and Russel Tanner as the two main contenders.

 

I reckon they should bring back Graham Roberts...

thanks tc...not happy with that...but hey, if thats what he wants then they can have him...of course, it could be just the odious toad trying to destabalise , and throw a smokescreen

maybe...they approached Matt Jones, offered him copious amounts of carrots and a 25hp John Deer, but couldn't provide stabling for his horse. (Its all brown field in north Essex) so he politely declined.

 

If not Roberts, then how about Westley...

personally, i would think it strange if Brian went...he's loved at Scraley road, and we are in a much worse league position than Braintree...he hasnt been hounded about producing results... still, i guess its seen as a step up

In all seriousness, Statham is a decent manager, I would imagine he be he considered for most jobs at this sort of level, but I hope he stays with you guys.

hang on a minute statham is doing an awful job at heybridge isnt he? last time i looked heybridge had a load of wivenhoe players and in the bottom 6!

 

tanner unproven. has had an unbeaten league start at maldon is is well liked by the players but has a decent budget and some big players.

 

i would have thought braintree very silly to appoint either of them.

 

someone like jonah would be a more valid candidate.

 

whats braintree budget like? can they not afford a big name???

look again...in terms of wiv players , just the one i think...we had a poor start, but thats my point, Brian is under no pressure here, but if he were at Braintree, he'd be out on his ear

With 4 points from their last 2 games he may be better off siting on his pile of carrots for the time being.

swift he signed half the wivenhoe team who were not even a good ryman 1 side last year. i know that is because the wivenhoe manaher joined the ranks. ok he is getting rid of them now but you are in the bottom 6. with the amount of dough heybridge pay they should be top half at the very least. this is a club nearing the play offs the last few seasons. i dont see how he is being touted for the braintree job. braintree are looking for promotion to the conference.

 

russel tanner would be a more likely choice out of the 2 in my opinion.

 

i cant realistically see either of them truely being in line for it.

Swifts lost jolly at the end of last season + club captin cousins,mike shinn and keeper danny gay to chelmsford. They were not replaced and we signed a few players who were not up it it which have now left. Dont think brian is going to braintree thou.Not this season any way

Statham is a good manager. He took Swifts to the playoffs and within a whisker of the Conf South.

Whether its with big money or not, he still brought in the right players and got them playing the right way.

 

They lost the true "nucleus" of the side in Danny Gay, Cousins and Shinn. Them three really did hold the spine to the side, and they havent been replaced really.

 

Problem Statham had/has is luring players to an area like Heybridge. Small village/town in the middle of nowhere with little support.

 

I think he is a good manager and would do well for Braintree.

Statham is a top manager and has done a great job at Heybridge, and long may he continue, I like Heybridge and wouldn't want them to be destabilized by losing their Manager.

 

I don't think he's going anywhere, its just the paper looking for a story imo.

 

What about Sammy Lee, about right for that level ?

The year we won the championship, Brian's Swifts pushed us all the way and finished runners-up.

 

I have to agree with TC that he's done very well for Heybridge.

hmmm well i didnt realise he had been in charge that long so have to hold my hands up. however the fact remains he has made some terrible signings this season and have a top side like heybridge in the bottom 6.

smallsy..i think you, like many others overestimate our budget...any club that does well will have budgetry insults thrown...however we have, and will (sadly) continue to have one of the smaller budgets, and it is only to Brians great credit that we have ever been challenging for bss status
