I thought the point about player loyalty was an interesting one, has it ever been particularly common for a player to notch up 300 appearances? I remember Chris Moore reaching that milestone (albeit in two spells). We've got 3 players (Kerras, Leon and Dorms) all at around the 200 mark, and Macca not far behind so it's hardly like we're changing the squad every couple of seasons...

But apparently financial rewards for playing essential 'local sport' across the county is not confined to the football field - other sports have also joined the pay game.

It's understood that in some cases, sports like rugby, league cricket, hockey, snooker and others, there are teams that pay the players who perform for them.

Chelmsford Hockey Club's men's 1st XI play in the National Premier Division, while their women's 1st XI (inc. 2 England players) play in the First Division. There are four other women's team, I have played for the 4th and 5th team and pay for the pleasure of playing - in excess of £400 per season.

A little more research needed from Mr Ward I think.

Great comment by 'pete, essex' following the article.
