Thoughts from Tonight

Yes we won and it was nice to get the three points blah blah blah. And, agreed, if you win, it doesn't matter how. But let's be frank, in the first half, a half-decent team would have buried us and we would have been 4-0 down by half-time. Granted, we improved a little in the second half and created several chances, two of which were put away. But, overall, I think most will agree we were lucky to get the win tonight.

Furthermore, I think that tonight's match proves that for all those who praise the reserves and callously claim "Oh throw them into the first team, they've got more passion and will fit right in", it is simply not true. Morris looks completely out of his depth IMO and we were clearly overrun in the midfield. And Smith, again, was woeful, out of position far too often and too quick to dive in. If these are our 'shining youngsters', then loan signings are the way forward.

Phoo! We made that bloody hard for ourselves tonight.

Worst performance from our lads in that first half that I have witnessed in ages.Could have been 3 down by half way but we got there in the end.

Two match saving saves by Scott Chalmers-Stevens & two magnificent headed goals by Rob Howarth both superbly supplied by our one & only Jimmy Jackson. These things were the difference between winning & losing tonight.

Great credit to Leyton for taking it to the wire.

It seems we are rubbish; but at the same time, its points that count.

I have to say, that despite all that; if we finish on the same no. of points as Wimbledon ( as we are now !!) we will still have a good league season ;as i still reckon Wimbledon will be top 3.

Somehow though, i just don't have the confidence we can maintain our winning run.

The effort levels from a few, notably Jacko, Haworth, Skins, Pinns, Morris and Macca, along with the great work from Scott really shone through particularly in the second half, but it wasn't pretty for the most part. Lucky that we were up against poor opponents. Hats off to those I mention above though. Their will to win really got us through.

What a awful first half, and what an poor atmosphere, everyone just waiting for us to concede, didn't have to wait long!!

That is the first time that I have seen the crowd so.... not sure how to describe it

second half was better , we got the points in the end, but what a surreal evening

My favourite part was queueing up for 25 minutes for a coffee

2 shots on target and 2 goals ,we were very very lucky and we made a real poor leyton side look like champs in the first half.schoolboy defending and no midfield at all.smith , morris nowhere near good enough.our top scorer playing right wing and spending most of his time covering smiths mistakes.mckimm looks half fit and 2 on loan players sittin on the bench.peters did ok when he came on got a couple of decent crosses in and defended ok.scs and howarth were good saunders ok, the rest terrible.

Put very well - I thought the first half was the worst I have seen since Grays beat us 6-0 at Ashford a few years back but the players and management know what the situation is so, to quote an old boss of mine "I have every confidence in you". One way or another I reckon that our season is going to go right to the wire so at least it is going to be interesting.

With regards to the crowd, a bit negative perhaps to think that 385 is bad when you consider what some sides get on a Saturday (Leyton for example) and this was a somewhat miserable Tuesday night.

I would agree that the catering last night left something to be desired with only one outlet open (apart from the bar). A colleague and I have a 130 mile 5.1/2 hour round trip for every home game and it was hopeless last night to get anything during the interval. I can survive without it but I just had the feeling that someone did not feel it was going to be worth opening.

But Rob Howarth's second goal made the evening worthwhile - real Roy of the Rovers stuff. Oh and Jimmy Jackson's never ending enthusiasm and SCS' saves.

Yes it was ugly football last night but, it was 3 points and, hopefully a bit of confidence to the players.

My favorite bits last night:

1) Skins TOWERING over that left winger. He had to get used to looking down at a player rather looking up to one.

2) That double pony tail of thier No. 3. It made me think of what Frankie must have done with his hair when he had somewink

No problem at all with the staff, whomsoever they might be, just that there was only one outlet open. The staff can only do so much.
