VCD Athletic 0-4 Reserves

After a disappointing performance against Whistable last week, the reserves took a break from the league and set their eyes on a cup tie away against a physical VCD Athletic side.

On a lovely surface, Margate started bright with some neat ball work played along the back and pushing onwards into midfield. With a newly look side, Heath played in the heart of the midfield, leaving the experience of Eastwood and Emmanuel in defence.

With several the ball mostly being knocked around by the gate midfield, they took the lead after 18 minutes when the ball got knocked over the top and young Taylor squared the ball to Quaine who put the ball into the empty net.

With VCD under pressure, Margates 2nd goal come shortly after with a header flicked on by Quaine, Taylor was in who struck the ball brilliantly in the bottom left corner.

Taylor was in again as Brown cut the ball back and he powered a low shot into the bottom corner leaving the keeper rooted to the spot. With Lamprell's goal un-touched the blues went into half time 3-0 up and leaving Mark Weatherly pleased.

Margate came out second half and immediately were put under pressure with VCD missing some good chances. The game suddenly had a huge change! With the blues looking in total control, a two footed lunge from Quaine left the referee with no choice but to show him a straight red. Margate had to play the remaining 40 minutes with 10 men.

As expected, VCD took advantage of this and constant pressure had to keep the gate defence on their toes. The home side then got a golden oppurtunity, with the ball getting knocked through the forward was in, but a brilliant one on one save by Lamprell kept his clean sheet in tack. With Harker, Zachrias and Kechi all trying to keep the ball and slow the time down, it was Summers who had other ideas when he unleashed a 30 yard power driver which flew intot he top left hand corer via the bar. This got all the boys off the bench cheering as he deserved got a goal.

Final whistle went, with Margate comfortably into the next round.

Margate: M.Lamprell, Z.Zachrias, G.Emmanuel, J.Eastwood, R.Harker (D.Stokes), O.Keci, R.Summers, A.Heath, A.Quaine, S.Brown (J.McAree), J.Taylor (D.Vanhingsberg)
