While watching Banstead v Colliers Wood ("crowd 32"), we got talking about just how so many clubs in Surrey manage to survive and this raised the question of mergers.

Good thing/Bad thing?

Seriously, I know clubs want to keep their identities but how many CCL clubs have REALISTIC ambitions of playing 1, 2 or even 3 levels higher in the foreseeable future.

Interesting debate or a pile of poo? feedback

Now I am hearing of a new league for clubs struggling to stay in division 1 and those who can't get in! bigshock

What is the point?

As a club who have played at Isthmian Premier Level it is certainly our ambition to play there again, which however is more than unlikely without a ground. There are one or two who have played that high, Chertsey, Epsom, Wembley? so why not again one day.

As for mergers - 1 club with a few fans + another club with a few fans = even less fans due to disgruntled fans jacking it in. The only successful mergers were at a far high level, others more or less stayed where they were(Woingate/Finchley, Wokingham & Emsbrook)or folded (Colliers Row/Barking, Guildford & Dorking United)

It would seem sensible to creat a "Super Club" in one area. There are so many clubs within a 5 mile radius of Camberley. In the end a club needs to take a serious look at itself. What is it there to achieve ? Promotion and become a non local club or provide something the community want to get involved with and have a decent youth set up that play at CCL Level.

If Camberley merged it would be my club dying and a new one starting so I would not support them.

dorking have a ground (today!), played at isthmian prem level, 1st round fa cup 3 thousand plus there and with a merger in the southern league.

both ventures apparently nearly sank the club.

feel good factor , bums on seats , succesful cooperation with local businesses and a proper youth and reserve setup

or a millionaire or jam today bust tomorrow.

We have also played at Isthmian Premier and our ambition is to get back there one day. We know it won't be for a while, as we're still recovering from a lot of mis-management in recent years. Doubt if we'll ever have the support or resources to get any higher than that, but you never know!

As for mergers, I think Alb's quote is spot on - "1 club with a few fans + another club with a few fans = even less fans due to disgruntled fans jacking it in". Hence why Croydon and Croydon Athletic will never merge

And you played 11 of our boys that had their reserve heads on. For 60 mins you played against 10 as we shockingly had one dismissed. Terrible decision. No complaints on the result though as we were 2-1 down at that point anyway.

Fortunately for me, i only had to watch our poor performance from the bench.

Munch Munch! mad
