DFC web-site match report for those of you that can't access it:-

"Dorking secured their second win at Meadownbank in a matter of 5 days with a comprehensive if fiery win over Surrey rivals Egham Town on Saturday courtesy of an impressive hattrick from Dorking no. 9 Marcel Dennis. The victory is Dorling's first league win of the season after 11 games, and follows the league cup win in midweek. Importantly, the three points lifts Chicks off the foot of the table for the first time for a month and puts Dorking in touch with the group of clubs in lower mid table.

Following the encouraging performance in the FA Vase last Saturday at runaway league leaders Merstham which saw Dorking go down to a narrow 2-0 defeat (Merstham underlining their strength by winning at the weekend by 7-0 away from home) in a league match), the signs are that Dorking are putting together a team that belies their lowly league position, and the midweek league cup win by Dorkiing by 4-2 over a battling Knaphill of the Combined Counties First Division seemed to point to a long overdue league win for the Chicks, having come so close in a host of matches so far this season, including narrow last minute defeats in recent matches against Ash United and Raynes Park Vale.

Indeed from the off there seemed a lot of purpose about the Dorking team, Egham themselves having had a mixed start to the season by their usual high standards. In this game, Dorking showed much strength down the middle of the pitch, keeper Chris Roberts having returned to Dorking following a 10 year absence to add real authority to the keeping position, while captain Paul McCormick is leading with real example with some determined performances in central midfield, forming a useful looking partnership with Herve King. In attack, Marcel Dennis was a revelation in attack, proving a real handful with strike partner Alex Wheeler and later sub Justin Georgiou, while winger Billy Ramsey look to have been given a new lease of life on the left, proving a thorn in the Egham side all game in this match.

Dorking took the lead in the 13th minute, Marcel Dennis surging into the box only to be tripped by the Egham keeper, the ref rightly pointing to the spot. It was Dennis himself who picked himself up and took the spot kick, sending the keeper the wrong way to give Chicks the lead. From the kick off, Dorking had a strong claim for a second penalty, Dennis proving a real livewire for the Egham team in charging down a central defensive clearance straight from the restart, but despite the protests of the Dorking players, the ref waved away the appeals following the keeper once more challenging Dennis in the box as the ball span free.

Egham came back into the game towards the end of the half, but Danny Stassinos and Dan Brown looked steady at left and irght back, while Nick Brown controlled the central defence commandingly and Dorking were able to go into half time with a one goal advantage.

Egham started the stronger in the second half, without really creating any threat to Roberts' goal, and as the game went on it looked more and more likely that Chicks would win. The only real chance Egham had in the second period saw Roberts punch clear as an Egham forward broke through the Dorking defence.

Egham were reduced to 10 men fin the 65th minute, and Dorking made the result more certain with a great second goal soon after, Dennis hammering home a fine volley from just inside the area from a raking cross on 70 minutes Ten minutes later Deninis claimed his hattrick after Billy Ramsey had driven into the Egham penalty box, his shot being charged down by the Egham keeper only for Dennis to skilfully slot home with the goalie displaced.

There was even time for Justin Georgiou's effort to be ruled out for offside as it looked like Dokring had put the icing on the cake with another goal, the only glitch in the Dorking performance being the sending off of captain McCormick in injury time for a puzzling handball which attracted a second yellow card and saw the midfielder head for an early bath."

Hmmm. We can't score goals at the moment (even our 2-0 win on Saturday was courtesy of Lordswood defenders scoring 2 own goals!), and we go and let Marcel Dennis go without really giving a him much of a chance to prove himself. frown

Must have words with our Chairman about the competence of the manager! wink
