Droylesden Game

Recommended Posts

Unusual for there to be no comments on the game apart from Graham's response to BB.

Thought we were extremely poor in the first half and that we were fortunate not to go in to half time 1 or even 2 goals down. Droylesden basically ran the show for the first 45 minutes, and were given far too much space and time in the midfield.

We were better second half and I dont recall Droylesden getting even 1 real chance. Excellent through ball from Luke for Bostwick to square the ball for Raffa's goal - if we had been the defending team, though, I'd have been disappointed how easily Bostwick got through.

As for the second, what a great finish from Chukki - I thought all he could do was lay the ball back when he received it back to goal 18 yards out, but he created half a yard for himself & spun on a sixpence to fire a great effort into the corner. Just shows how he's developing with us - just a shame that it appears we may again be losing his services for a while, as it seemed his hamstring had gone again.

Wasnt sure about Raffa being our MOM today either - too often the choice seems to be the easy option - he set us on our way with a goal, so lets give him the award. I actually thought that Peter Hawkins should potentially have won it today - a calming influence at the back in the absence of Macca (what was wrong with Macca incidentally and with Mark Rickett's?).

Droylesden were somewhat powder puff, but I've seen worse and could still find a way to pull themselves back towards survival - hard as it may be.

Good to see Exeter held by Northwich afterwards as well - although whether the result will count for anything will, of course, be dependent on how things work out or otherwise for the Vics this coming week.

On that note take a look at this from "revolting Confguide, where libel and foul language are so prevalent".

I was a bit surprised that Sasha got the captains armband ahead of Hawkins, maybe a reward for recent excellent performances and improved discipline. applause

Fair play to Droylsden they played some tidy football in nice little triangles, not the sort of football you normally get from a side struggling at the bottom of the table, if they had scored from one of their chances in the first half it might have been a different story.

Not our best performance but a very welcome three points, Onwards and upwards.

Home draw on Monday please.

Wasn't it McPhee, not Bostwick, set it up...? He then raced back to defence without a smile on his face and left the celebrating to everyone else!!

Indeed it was - Rapha had to seek him out well inside our half to thank him for the ball in. Thank God we didn't decide he wasn't up to it on the basis of his unconvincing displays as a forward during the summer. As has been said already, player of the season so far.

Did you have a press pass?

Only joking. smile

I to take pictures at games but have been told about four times this season then I can't take pictures. Aldershot, Burton*, Exeter and Rushden were the culprits.

Pathetic rule as I'll be at Wembley in two weeks watching the Miami Dolphins lose by about 1,000 points to New York Giants and the Stewards will let me through with it.

*Burton would have let me but I was a bit cocky to one of their stewards.

Aldershot might also have let you, had you not a)muttered an expletive asking her to go away; or b)when she asked you to 'put it away', replied 'what, the camera?'.

It's just not been going right for us at all this season. We were gifted the best possible start to the season when we were up against Salisbury at home on the opening day. A chance to get our feet under the table and a bit of confidence so to speak.

Gareth Morris was sent off after 5 minutes so we played 85 minutes with ten men and came away with a 0-0 draw. It's basically gone pear shaped since then.

I must say that we're having some shocking luck. Every rebound at the moment seems to fall to an opposition player.

A good indication of where we are at will be on Saturday when we entertain Histon at home. We were the North Champions and they were the South. If we lose that I think we're definitely on our way down.

It'll be a great shame because believe it or not, I'm really enjoying the journey.

Keep your chin up mate a lot of teams have turned it around. One, Southport, did it in our first season back in the Conference. They were fourth at Christmas time and relegated in April.

It doesn't look like it now but you could turn it round. Just keep playing the way you are. This time last year Oxford were top by about ten points, they then played us and the rest is history.
