Heybridge Swifts 2 Billericay Town 2

Recommended Posts

Thought I might be first to post as I live closer to Scraley Road than New Lodge !

Superb finish by Joe Flack gave us dream start after 9 mins, only for a penalty to make it 1-1 5 mins later.

PA credited Jamie Dormer with final touch after Flack's hard work resulted in his shot hitting a post to put us 2-1 up on 63, then a 20 yard shot made it 2-2 four mins from time.

They hit the post with a free kick, Jack made a couple of good stops in goal and Dorms could have scored before Joe when their keeper stopped from point blank range.

The experts will have their say on team selections, subs, the oppo and the ref later I am sure, but no complaints about the result from my humble point of view...

I'd agree that the draw was a fair result based on the balance of play, but after taking the lead twice we should be dissapointed that we didn't nick it.

I didn't think we got going in the second half. Our second goal was against the run of play, but was very welcome as without it I feel we'd have been under the cosh.

But if offered a home replay before the match I'd have taken it, but I'd rather it didn't go to penalties on Tuesday please!

Jack made some great reflex saves and kept us in it.

Ref was poor and all the Yellows weren't justified. Nor was their penalty.

I fancy us on Tuesday, but I'd like to see Hodgey start.

I agree with you guys.

I watched the game as a neutral and thought a draw was a fair result.

Buckfield in goal made some very smart stops, and Heybridge were unlucky twice where they hit the post and had one cleared off the line.

You guys had great possession and keep the ball really well, but where is the wide men? No width let you down.

Joe Flack was superb for you guys, and Burbs did well when he came on.

You should win the replay.

Well here we go again,

I did think before the game that a draw would be okay at this ground, but the way the lads started it looked like we were going to run away with it. (but I forgot about the Refs input)

Jack was IMMENSE in goal and well deserves the earlier comments of MOTM.

The Ref was Piss Poor as usual.

The lino only did what the swift’s bench instructed him to do. (Surely they are not allowed to stand and chat with him on the sideline?)

To see the ref and his so-called assistants walk off the pitch amongst the swift players said it all for me, they almost had the same kit on as well.

Officials like this ( IMO ) make the hard work the teams and management of teams redundant as you can only play the other team not the officials.

Nice crowd of Billericay Fans out for the game and even one or two drops of claret to be seen. I’m sure we will get a proper account of the number of fans we had at the ground from them later in the day.

Bring it on for Tuesday lads

If you are a Heybo fan this morning you'll be pleased to be in Monday's draw, but disappointed to see the 'or Billericay Town' beside them. Although we battled well, (and thank christ for the forward line that we've got) we don't have sufficient quality in midfield or strength in depth throughout the squad. Tuesday is massive, we need to win, simple as.

Must admit I saw the game slightly differently and I was quite relieved to come away still in the hat. I thought Heybridge looked a bit better than us, especially in the second half.

Having said that though most of their chances came about from defensive errors and if we can eradicate these then I strongly believe we have the quality in our forward line to win any game.

I agree with Ryan that we can't keep operating with half a midfield, options are a bit limited, but with Hodgey likely to return, it'll be interesting to see how we go in there.

We're still in it and hopefully w ecan capitalize in our home advantage on Tuesday.

Come on you blues!!!

Having thought about it, I think we were unlucky not to come away victors. Dont get me wrong, Heybridge looked very dangerous, Jack had to make some good saves and they hit the woodwork.

But the pen should never had been, even the heybridge boys agree with that, and that pen gave them a boost, it put them back in the mix and gave them belief that they could go on an win.

IMO. a poor decision changed the course of the game and ultimately changed the result.

From that point on Heybridge had their tails up and had the better of the chances.

When we scored our second I thought we might have just seen the game out, but as time went on, the self pressure mounted and our defence dropped deeper, this allowed Heybridge into shooting range and what a great strike for their equalizer.

So its back to New Lodge and we start again with a clean sheet and a different ref, yesterdays one is off on holiday apparently

We started very well and had good chances either side of Joe's opener. The pen gave them belief whilest knocking ours, and they were able to get on top. 2nd half was a little disappointing from us, didn't really create much. Still, we're in the hat, and would expect Hodgey to come into the side on Tuesday which will give us a bit more in attack.

On reflection, I was expecting a battle. We've been to Heybridge before for a cup tie and had been kicked off the park. Instead, we got "dying swans", which was quite difficult to play against when the "man in the middle" was blowing up for every grounded player...The game suffered from this as it didn't really flow that well.

Flacks goal was superb. He is showing all the potential that he had when he fisrt came to Billericay. The look on Dormers face was a picture when the ball came off him for our second...surprise? shock? He wouldn't admit to it...

The performance from the team was good. We battled hard and had our chances but so did Heybridge. And let's not forget Jack Buckfield...he pulled off some superb saves to keep us in the game and well deserved his selection in the starting 11.
