Returning to the fascinating subject of attendances, specifically the even more fascinating topic of other clubs' attendances, I see only 1,104 turned up at Halifax tonight, not exactly cramming them in for an ex-league club, are they...?

It's not just our problem.

I hope you guys don't mind me joining in this debate. Having read previous posts today re this matter and other comments made in Football press, re the name change earlier in the season, I get a bit agrieved hearing people banging on about all the negatives around Our club and always , conveniently, missing the positives.

Manager, players, attendances, quality of football and facilities therein are not collectively the reasons why I attend any match played by any club.I go to matches to be entertained and to feel part of the collective(supporters and players) around me to acheive that 'male bonding',for want of a better term,( not to be misconstrewed with gayism please!) and to satisfy my unique and common belief that I know more than everyone running that club on that day( don't we all do that?).Some of the earlier 'negs' stated only serve to show, in my opinion at least, that the moaners have been away for so long that they no longer understand what 'support' means and that continued depletion of numbers thro the gates means that they will remain in the minority and will also be able to call themselves one of the few that had played a large part in the demise of local football( probably with self-serving smile on their face t'boot)whilst finishing their pint bought from Tescos and sitting in their armchair on a matchday. The overall condition of this treasured game at 'grassroots' level in the UK is bad enough without the 'hit-squads'attempting to put further nails in its coffin. It would be fantastic to go to the next home game and see the place swollen to capacity but we all know that will not happen. So I think the local 'armchair pundits'should leave the proper support, and also the right which has been earned by those true supporters to critise when and where they deem fit, and who are also those who give their money and time to EUFC regularly in the hope that it may one day be rewared with Promotion and all that goes with it.

I make no apologies for my comments accept that maybe the grammer and diction could be better.

The argument over the name change disaffecting many people seems plain daft to me. Yes, I flinched a bit when it was first announced, but apart from the name, nothing else has changed - its the same team as it would have been under the banner of GNFC, its got the same board, the same manager and the same ground as well as the same team colours - I dont feel any different standing on the terraces to what I did last season.

In any event, if we're saying that the name change has made 400 people or thereabouts stay at home on a Saturday then I feel desperately sorry for those people. I assume if the name changes for the company they work for, they would resign immediately as its clearly not going to be the same company (on that premise, I'd have resigned from my employer about half a dozen times over the last 3-4 years!).

Equally, if the argument is that the name change means it "isnt their team any more", then why is it that most of these people then support the Arsenals, Man Utd's, Charlton's, etc of this world? How can they consider these to be any more "their team" than Ebbsfleet United? A few may have valid justification - they were born in Manchester for instance, but most will not (I accept, however, that an individual can support Charlton as they are the most local higher level league club and Fleet could then be considered their non league team).

I dont pretend to know the answers as to why we cant get more people to Stonebridge Road - if I did, I'm sure I'd be a multi millionaire by now, but the arguments raised previously over the club name seem flimsy at best.

To put it frankly, I am writing this letter to urge the people of our town to support our team, Ebbsfleet United, and to do the board, the team, and the town justice as we push for promotion to League Two.

I am a life-long GNFC/EUFC supporter and therefore may well be biased; however it is my passion for the club which pushes me to write this letter. We have achieved so much in the past ten years: Promotion to the Conference, holding our own and developing into genuine contenders, developing an attractive style of football, becoming a professional football club, redeveloping our ground and securing one of the most luxurious sponsorship deals in non-league history- how many other clubs can claim to wear the name of an internationally-recognised and well-respected transport company on their shirts? My concern is that all of this hard work will be undermined by the falling attendances I am seeing at Stonebridge Road. The club will not be able to continue making such remarkable progress with such low numbers through the turnstiles.

I am not asking people to come to see the Fleet as an act of charity; there is much more in it for the first-time visitor than the pride of supporting a traditional local establishment. A high standard of football is on display, as you would expect from a professional team, with the majority of the squad having played with some of England’s best players at some stage in their careers. Entertaining games are commonplace; so far this year I have seen a 5-4 victory and a 2-1 win over the league leaders to name but a few of the better games. A unique atmosphere exists in all sides of the ground. Most of the fans have a close association with the team, usually the fact that they live in the town, and this creates a touching personal aura which is non-existent in Premiership and Championship grounds. Prices are also very reasonable; children, OAPs and students will be able to see a good game of football for £7 whilst an adult will gain entry for £13, putting the price of Premiership clubs to shame.

People of Gravesham. Please take notice of Ebbsfleet United Football Club. They are an outstanding organisation, on our own doorsteps, who have a brilliant mix of respect for their local support, and huge ambitions for the future. Represent your town with pride, whilst being part of one of the most innovative movements in the area, at a low cost, at the same time as watching and enjoying a quality game of football.

This is the letter I am sending in at the moment- not in time for tomorrow's publication but I am hoping it will be mentioned the week after. The more the merrier everyone, they cannot ignore a stack of letters from Ebbsfleet fans or they are not a 'local paper' representing 'local views'.

I'm still not sure about Daish being the best manager the club have had for years, but I could not agree more about his quality as an interviewee...very poor.

I don't mean that as an insult, or neccessarily as a condemnation of him as a manager. The problem is that invaribly he is the spokesman for the club. When was the last time you heard any of the board being interviewed on the radio? and in reality would they be any better? In my view the club urgently needs a front-man, a PR manager (call him/her what you like) but someone who has experience of dealing with the press and can secure good and more importantly regular exposure in the press, or on radio etc. even when there is very little news to talk about, someone who is able to create a professional image for what is after all now a professional football club.

The image of the club is still very much that of a little non-league club and if crowds are going to be attracted into Stonebridge Road in sufficient numbers that image needs to be drastically addressed. I believe the appointment of an experienced PR manager would be a great first step in the necessary image change.

Why not go the whole hog and just hire Max Clifford!

We are a Blue Square Premier club not Manchester United (Thank God!)

What an absolutly ridiculous response....of course Ebbsfleet are not Manchester United and no the answer would not be a Max Clifford.

But for god's sake get real, the club has an image problem, if they didn't there would not be any attendance problem. The public of Gravesham would be more aware of the fact that they have a professional football club on their doorsteps, a club that isn't called Charlton Athletic!

Somebody needs to get into the faces of the people of North Kent and sell the club to them, convince them that they should go to Stonebridge Road to watch and support their local football club rather than go to Bluewater or Lakeside Shoping Centres, sitting at home watching the TV, gardening or whatever the majority of Gravesendians do on match days. This will take time and will indeed cost money. Employing the services of a professional that knows how to tackle such a task would, in my view, be money well spent. It's no good relying on the aamateurish, but best intended, way the club has projected itself in the past, if it does then we all know and fear what the ultimate outcome could be?

Listens to the sound of tumbleweed blowing across the canyons of J.P's mind!d

Same old reasons for low attendances and all of them true actually.

I n reality the true supporters will always come to home games come what may. Its just the floaters and casuals who fluctuate the gate from 800 to 1,500 ish

The truth is that all the reasons stated here are things which keep the floaters away during an average season, where nothing really exciting is happening.

If we we were challenging for the title (whatever league we were in)the crowds would swell and the excitement of what was going on would override the above "stay away" reasons.

Until all, or most, of the above points are addressed you will have low crowds during average seasons.

Hehhe, I may have been too long out in the sun, but the attendances argument is one I tend to agree with RR on... there are only so many Fleet fans that are ever going to turn up, and with the best will in the world, even Richard Branson would struggle to sell the club to an apathetic town. You can of course add supporters through decent marketing schemes, but for the Fleet in the short-term I can't see that bringing in any more than the previous casual fans who once counted themselves as semi-regulars and at best a few score brand-new regulars.

laugh Now all we need is for the letters, the posters, the leaflets in supermarkets, the adverts in papers and the back page of the Reporter inspire at least some of the football fans in Gravesham to come to Stonebridge Road on Saturday and return for the Forest Green game.

Rob Abdul has been a good sponsor of the club this season _ I wonder if he has any ideas about this? The potential in our local community is untapped.

With the Asian 12% of our community hugely under-represented at EUFC, why doesn't someone from the club contact Luton to find out what they did as part of their 'Outreach' program? Anything has to be worth a try at the minute, and it's hardly clutching at straws- it struck me as innovative on a club level and healthy for the community, and a win-win situation with real substance behind it. I'd ring Luton up if the club wanted me to.
