Mark Monday

I see that Margate have loaned out Mark Monday to Dover. Shame that we could not get him. I remember those days when he played for the fleet. He seemed to have a knack of getting his head on the end of Jacko’s free kicks and corners. Would have been nice to see him back for a while.

A great player in his time here, though I suspect that his best years of conference football are past him now - hence the Dover move. After all, he hadn't be featuring much in the Margate first team this season.

Sad really as he is a great team player and scoring 47 goals (in what 100 odd games for us) from midfield is no mean record.

Suspect that at least 12 of those were in the FA Cup alone up to the Villa......

 

Actually, I'd be surprised if many clubs can come close to the amount of goals we scored in that one cup campaign..? Do we hold another bizarre FA Cup record....Dave? Anyone?

Dave Powell was the leading goalscorer in the Cup that year, but I doubt that we have the highest total, there have been some double figure scores in the Cup.

I believe we still hold the record for the longest cup run in months from Sept 1962 to Feb 1963 from 1st Q Rd to 4th Rd Proper, held up due to the bad weather of 1962-1963, Sunderland luckily beat us in a replay at Roker Park 5-2, i am sure it still stands.
