Dover with no wins from 4 were out to get their season started against the Blues and it looked like it could be the Gates day as the ref booked a Dover player and awarded a pen against them all in the first 5 mins. For what ever reason up steped keeper Bowles and the shot was saved. margate put some good periods together but rearly got the ball into the area and the game evened. Dover played the long ball to turn Gate defence, this was the theme for most of their game and eventually went one up. Margate hit the post from close and dover did the same moment before HT. Second half and it only took a few minutes for Dover to double their score. Again on occasion Gates passing got them forward and presented several half chances and another off the post. 3 solo efforts through Dovers defence from number 11 gave chances but shots were well saved or wide. However, for sheer determination Gate managed to get one back when 11 blocked a clearence and found the net. Meanwhile at the other end Matt pulled of several great saves but when Dover hit their 3rd it was all over and a forth 10 from the end closed a hard lesson for Margate youngsters. Dover could have got 6 or seven in and Margate could have 3 or 4. Had the pen been put away who knows. We have to remember that most of this side are first year u18s and are coming up against older teams, u18s MUSH is a big step up. Time will tell for these lads. Top of the pile Herne Bay next week, away.
