Till the age of 17 Onebreast was a skinny player. It was after making his first team debut and scoring 2 goals coming off the bench in a cup game, that Sixi,Ewers and Heffer took him under their wings and he discovered the pleasures of life like stopping on the way back from matches at mc donalds and was introduced to every slut in Essex and surroundings.... grin

Coachie you make some good points, however Mark Stimpston is someone i know reasonable well enough and because,in my opinion he has good qualities and contacts as a manager that he is able to sign lots of players who are deemed initially not good enough to make the grade at pro clubs. So Stevenage have benefited from this and so the whole cycle goes on.I totally agree about the money making a difference to clubs and i was just interested to know if 1/2 grand would make that much difference in the everyday running of a club.Lastly you say parents or coaches of teams who give players the chance of first team football,ok i will throw this question out to the regular players on here then.

In you football lives how many mangers/coaches who you have played under have made a vast contribution to your personal playing development.I mean the people who you have played under who have constantly fed you information and shown you different things in sessions or during games where you go home and say to yourselves "I have really learnt something valuable their which will make me a better player.I am lucky enough to have played under 2, Andy Mcdermid at Billericay and East Thurrock and Peter Brabrook At Tilbury who consistantly gave out information at training ,half time, and at fulltime that made me do things differently when i played and effected my decision making on the pitch. You tell me fellas are their such coaches around at your level today?

SPOT ON CIDER!

That's where the problem lies... :)and don't tell me that those courses the FA have in place now, contribute to better coaching...after all Peter Brabrook didn't have all the qualifications, still worked with the youngsters at West Ham for a lot of years and you rightly named him as someone you learnt something from. The reason is what i call" dull minded" mentality by the Fa.What was good 30 years ago, half of it it's not applicable these days...while the FA big chiefs were sitting in their offices thinking we "know it" other countries were evolving, learning things from other sports,in other words overtaking you...now that problem has been solved at the top level with investment of money...top foreigner coaches, fitness trainers etc but.....it's very slow in filtering through to where it really matters...the grass roots or bottom of the pyramid.I can wake up one morning and as long as i have all qualifications i can form a team and play in one of the numerous junior leagues, run in anarchic ways and who remind me of medieval times...you have players that can sign for different clubs(saturdays,sundays,mid-week you name it..)you have centre of excellence and academy players that are wrapped in cotton-wool while in other countries,at the same age 13-15 they play in competitive leagues with relegation and promotion!Frankly the FA has to make a radical overhaul of everything concerning grass roots,if they stand any chance to shut up,all the pro-foreigners players party.... :)believe it mate, british beef is good providing the cattle is looked after properly. wink

What i actually ment was why do people think that they should be rewarded when they have had little or no effect on the player long term development. It makes me chuckle when i see a scout who says they found a player at 10 and they really believe that they have had a input on the player abillity when he is 20 and playing in the prem.Forget the 10 coaches and 3000 coaching sessions in between.
