Darren Grieves

New kid on the block!

"AFC Wimbledon 1st Team Squad

Name: Darren Grieves

Profile: Much-travelled striker whose previous clubs include Chesham United, Aylesbury United, Hemel Hempstead Town, Cheshunt, Northwood and Yeading ? where he played under Jon Turner. Came to prominence at AFC Wimbledon after a tenacious performance (and a well-taken headed goal) for East Thurrock United at Kingsmeadow last season. An old-fashioned targetman with an appetite for hard work, Darren is not afraid to put himself about and is clearly relishing the chance to come and play in front of a big crowd for the Dons."

So what's all this about then? Have we signed this player?

Hmm, a great big centre forward good in the air. Does this mean that if we have signed him, we will be knocking long high balls to him all afternoon?

Or, if as I am led to believe by posts on this forum we do that anyway to our existing diminutive forwards, will the addition of a big lad up front mean that we'll start playing good passing football on the ground?

Half the team currently try to play good passing football. The other half are of the hoof and chase variety. So if we actually have someone who can compete and win those high or long balls, that gives the 'players' a better chance to get the ball in possesion and create things. It also gives us an option when conditions negate any chance of short passing football.Something that has been lacking in the past.
